My father WAS a resident at the Westfield facility for the past few years and due to disease process with his Alzheimer’s diagnosis he was moved into the memory care unit. Food was good, activities were wonderful, area was clean but Incontinent hygiene was horrible. He was doubled diapered for staff convenience and sometimes not checked for hours! Falls went unreported and at times we would find bruises and skin tears only to be treated when we brought it to their attention. And when our concerns were reported we were told only what we wanted to hear and nothing would be done until we became extremely upset and loud. And only then would we see a minimal amount of effort to resolve issues. That is when we decided to remove our father from this facility for his safety.
Joyce, I was the patient.

I went to Copper Trace to recover from major surgery. I was going to stay for 3 weeks. I left after 3 days. It is clean and new. There was only 1 tiny lamp in the room, no view of the out side, and a very sparse unwelcoming space. That being said I left because the food was absolutely unedible, Powdered eggs etc. the staff would forget to give me my meds for up to two hours late. I would remind them, and they would still be up to two hours late. If I went to the desk and stood there they still were not given on time. They would wake you in the middle of the night for a blood test due the next day. And then they would even forget to take a blood test. I could not afford to loose weight, and friends brought me food, because there food was so horrible. Other families who had loved ones there said their family's we're bringing in food, for the same reason. i came there because I was supposed to have a shot each day. They said they wouldn't do that, unless my doctor came there, herself. I would not put a loved one there unless you try the food several times. It is very poor quality with canned vegetables and fruits being the norm, salt and all. I went home to recover and take my meds on a timely basis.

My mom will be moving to Copper Trace. The staff was very helpful. The rooms were large and exactly what my mom needed with a separate kitchen area and a living area. The bedroom was large with an adjoining bathroom. I like that it was more apartment-like, bright, and cheery. I like the price and what it has to offer. It's resident-directed and offers a lot of activities. It's new, so they're just starting to develop things. They offer bingo, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, outings, movies, cooking classes, barbecues, and family get-togethers. They're relatively new, so they're looking for a lot of input from the families and the residents themselves. The dining area is set up restaurant-style. They have an open menu, and I like the fact that the hours are not confined to a specific slot. Her breakfast time is more extended, which is much better than most places, so if she doesn't get down early enough, she still has time to go down to breakfast. They have extended their breakfast hours so she can go down later than what would be a normal breakfast time. I liked that idea because she's not an early riser. I found that most of their residents are not early risers, so they extended that. It was so resident-directed. They are changing a lot of things based on input from the residents.
