Brookdale Sweetwater Creek was very nice. The rooms were very nice and clean. The staff was very professional, welcoming, courteous, and caring. They showed everything, and I had a good tour.
The facility is just okay. My husband's grandmother complains about the food and therefore doesn't really eat it. Maintenance is very slow to fix major issues (i.e. wobbling and loose toilet)... we recently learned that the staff may be eating his grandmothers food... but overall, his grandmother complains of how bored she is throughout the day. It breaks my heart because she says no one ever really comes to her room throughout the day. Because of her dementia, she sometimes turns the tv off and doesn't know how to work the remote to get it back on, so she will just sit in silence with a tv that she thinks is "broke". My take is-- if staff were checking on her regularly or talking to her, they'd notice that her tv isn't working. They don't have a lot of activities. The only time I see residents smile is when my 18 month old daughter walks the halls waving hi to everyone.
My dad moved into Brookdale, and it's acceptable. The staff does the job the best they can do. The dining area is nice, and the food is way below average, and they do not have good meals for people with low-sodium diets. His apartment is small and nothing fancy. They provide minimal activities; most facilities have more. The only thing they have is bingo. We chose it because it was two miles from my house.
Brookdale Sweetwater Creek had a lot of activities going on when I was there. They've had a pretty outgoing person as their resident activity director who would always keep them busy. There were quite a few things going on there, but I really would not put anyone in a situation like that unless they were in the latter stage of dementia and needed that much support and constructive help. They had a few amenities, but the activities were the most outstanding ones. I felt that the environment was really cold. I didn't really care for it at all.
