We visited The Windsor of Ocala. It appeared to be clean and organized. It was not convenient for us to bring our furniture, so that was one of the things that made us decide not to go. The rooms are rather small but adequate. Brenda was very nice and helpful. Their exercise room was extremely small, as I recall.

Brookdale Chambrel Pinecastle was very nice, it's an older community, but it was remodeled. I was very impressed with the staff. I have it on my list of places to go back and see again if my friend's nephew ever gets here. I was very impressed by the marketing person. For the rooms, I saw mostly studios and one-bedrooms. They were very clean, they showed me renovated and not renovated apartments, and I liked the renovated one more. It was very nice. I'm considering it for my friend.

I visited Hampton Manor at Deerwood's assisted living. I saw people interacting, it was very clean, and if I remember correctly, it's privately owned, so it's not a large management company. Activities were going on while I was there. I also remember seeing a lady that I thought was probably in memory care. She was wandering the hallways and kind of confused. The staff that was with me stopped and immediately excused herself from me to get the lady help, and I was very impressed by that because that's what's lacking where my friend is right now. I remember that it's an older facility, and that it had a lot of artwork.

My mother moved into Hampton Manor at Deerwood, and as far as I can tell it is very good. Everybody is kind and friendly. The room is bare and grey. It is what it is, but it is functional, it is available, and we are grateful. The food is delicious; they love the food.

Marion Woods was very well run, very clean, and it seemed like a nice community. The people we met that lived there seemed happy and the management seemed concerned and involved in every person, which was impressive to us. It had everything in between and all the amenities. It had a beautiful pool and a grill. There's pretty much a place to do everything. If you want to walk, there's a beautiful trail around the property. Everything was just super nice. All in all, we were very much impressed. My dad is 93 years old and not much impresses him, so that is like an extra brownie points for them. The rooms were very nice and very clean. They redo the carpet, and they paint so that everything is brand new each time someone leaves and before you move in. The floor plans were nice. They had everything. It felt very safe as well. The rooms were nice, the accessibility to them, everything is on one level, and they offer a lot of choices. They had studios and they had rooms as big as 2-bedrooms and 2-baths. So, you can be really like in an efficiency pretty much with one big room or you can be in the largest one, which is like a small home in a way as it has a lot of space. The price goes up as you get into bigger accommodations, but what we liked in the community was that it is a senior living residence, not an assisted living community. So, the residents are able to maintain as much independence as they want to, but there is backup for when they go. The minute you don't feel like driving anymore, there is a bus to take you. Everything is right there. There is a barbershop there. The other thing is that if you get to a point where you would need physical therapy or you need someone to come in and clean or anything like that, they have a list of people that they have used that are vetted by them and that they would recommend. They probably have already been coming to the community for other people. If you need somebody to help you, they know who to call; that was another perk as well. I could do a whole shoot on how good a community Marion Woods was.
