The Bonaventure had nice-sized rooms. It’s not suited for my in-laws because it’s not assisted living, and you have to contract for somebody to do the things that we need. It’s for people who are more independent. It’s a beautiful place but not suited for what we need.Read more The Bonaventure reviews
The Bonaventure mimics the one I visited from Simi Valley. The people were more cooperative, and the staff showed us whatever we wanted and were very congenial. They had an activities calendar as well and it looked loaded. However, Sunday was the day of rest for them, so they did not have anything going on. It was a ve...Read more The Bonaventure reviews
The Bonaventure's staff is very pleasant, and I am very satisfied. I am planning on moving there. I like the facility and the people who are working there. I should be happy there. The apartments are clean and a good size. I have nothing negative to say about them.Read more The Bonaventure reviews
The Bonaventure was very nice and upgraded. They were very well-staffed and really catering to the residents there. It was definitely top notch. The rooms were very nice and very accessible for the disabled. The food smelled amazing, and they had lots of events.Read more The Bonaventure reviews
We chose The Bonaventure because it was the only one available that had the apartment my parents wanted. It's very pretty inside. The food is good. The people are very pleasant, but my father complains that they're old. They like it, and we haven't run into any problems yet. I give the staff a 5, especially the dining ...Read more The Bonaventure reviews
The city of Ventura originated as a Spanish mission founded in 1782 by Father Junipero Serra. By the late 1800s it had a strong oil-producing industry yielding 90,000 barrels a day. It later became the center of citrus farming because of the region’s fertile soil, which proved conducive to large-scale farming. The construction of major highways near Ventura made it more accessible, facilitating a period of rapid growth. In fact, Ventura’s population has quadrupled in the past 20 years.
Ventura is also a popular surfing destination. Easy ocean access, great views, and a thriving local economy make this waterfront locale an attractive choice for seniors considering independent living in Ventura.
The Ventura Avenue Adult Center is a place where seniors will never lack for interesting things to do or new activities to try. It offers a diverse range of recreational activities (cribbage, Mah Jong, pinochle), exercise classes (Qigong, Tai Chi, yoga), and social services (tax preparation, legal assistance). The center has a Parkinson’s support group managed by the California Neuroscience Institute at St. John’s Medical Center, as well as free ongoing health screenings. Older adults who enjoy independent living in Ventura will be kept busy by the center’s long list of educational and recreational activities.
Only a small section of the original mission founded by Father Junipero Serra still stands today, but that does not deter visitors from coming to Mission San Buenaventura. The mission was the 9th Spanish mission to be established in California and the last one founded by the Franciscan friar. The stone grotto and the beautifully landscaped garden provide a picture-perfect rendition of serenity and calm. The mission is an active parish church of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Ventura independent living seniors who are interested in the history of the region will surely appreciate the unique glimpse of California’s long and rich past that can be gleaned from a visit to the San Buenaventura Mission.
St. John’s Regional Medical Center is part of Dignity Health, the largest acute healthcare organization in Ventura County. It is a certified Primary Stroke Center with an acute stroke team and a full-time stroke nurse practitioner. By providing accurate screening processes and timely treatments, the Stroke Program increases the chance for long-term success and improved outcomes for stroke patients. St. John’s Regional Medical Center also has a Heart and Vascular Institute, lung cancer screening program, cutting edge diagnostic imaging services, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and much more. These and other services make Ventura independent living an attractive option for older adults.
Ventura seniors can get around the city via ACCESS, a public transit service for adults 65 and older as well as for people with disabilities. Riders can use ACCESS to get to their medical appointments, the grocery store, or any other destination within the ACCESS service area. Personal care attendants can ride along with elderly passengers who require assistance.
