My father has been in Summerset Assisted Living of Rancho Cordova for a month and a half now. It has modern decor, it's well laid out, and it has all the modern amenities that you need in a facility like wide doors for the bathroom, the apartments, and the studios. They have patios, open floor plans, wide bathrooms, they can have a wheelchair to move around in, pull cords in the bathrooms, and all the residents get an emergency cord necklace. I like the layout and ambience. The food is great and he likes it. They have family lunches, family dinners, games, and raffles. However, we're having issues with the regular changing of his Depends. We found a new blanket in his room that we brought out to the front staff and they still put it back in his room -- there's definitely been some miscommunication. They also could be a little bit more creative with their activities. The cook, the people that assist Dad in the restaurant and the front staff would be a 4, but the care providers, making their beds, assisting him with dressing and bathing, and giving information to the family about their healthcare would be a 3. We had to come in frequently and remind them he needs more frequent changes. However, there are some staff members that are helpful.
Summerset have been absolutely great. My father-in-law is a sundowner and a wanderer, and they take very good care of him. He was at the assisted level first, and they were kind to him, attentive, and suggested to my wife that we move him to the memory, which we finally did. They take care of his needs, his medications, and feeding him. They have been really good. It’s a very large facility. The first floor is assisted living, and there’s probably 100 rooms with three wings and a large meeting area, kitchen, and eating area where the residents and guests can have meals anytime they want. They have activities every day. There’s a piano, bingo, and all kinds of stuff for the residents. The staff is wonderful. On the second floor, there’s about 40 rooms for memory care, dementia, and Alzheimer’s, where my wife’s father is. They take very good care of my father-in-law. They feed him cookies at night. On the third floor is independent living. They have access elevators and come and go as they wish. They have activities on every level of care. They are absolutely awesome.
Thank you for the wonderful words. Our goal is to provide quality care for our residents in a comfortable home-like enviroment.
Summerset is affordable and within our budget. The care by the staff is great. They are taking really good care of my dad. The administration staff is not so great. The apartment sizes range from studios to two-bedrooms, and all of the rooms have a kitchenette and a bathroom. We have a quite large studio. There haven't been any complaints from my dad about the food so far. It is a restaurant-style dining. They have activities like bingo and card games and go on outings once a week to various places.
Northstar has provided a much needed community for seniors in the Rancho Cordova area. One of the best building features are the private baths for each resident in a shared or double room. The chef takes great care and expertise in preparing each resident's meal as if they were dining at home. The dining staff take the time and consideration when serving, listening to stories, and assisting when needed. The courtyard has plenty of room to safely walk about or sit under the patio and boasts a few raised garden beds for ease of access for residents. The caregiving and activity staff are highly trained and compassionate. Memory care is housed safely upstairs, and is limited to an outside area for walking on a patio balcony. However an exceptional activity leader and team offer ample opportunities for exercise. Front entrance is on a main street with minimal parking, however residents can be picked up and dropped off in driveway to the front door.
This beautiful building opened in 2014, so the interior design and furnishings are all tastefully up to date. The Assisted Living apartments are relatively small with options of studio (348 sq. ft.), one bedroom ( 457 sq. ft.) and two bedroom (654 sq. ft.). The biggest downfall of this community is the location of the property near a liquor store in a questionable neighborhood. The building takes up the whole parcel space so parking is sometimes challenging. An Executive Chef plans and prepares the food, so special diets can be accommodated very easily.
