My visit with Mountain Park Senior Living turned out quite well. I was happy with it and it was conveniently located for me. I was impressed by the community and I was treated nicely. There's a Lutheran church nearby where a lot of the residents go, my son also goes there so he practically know the residents. I was looking at a 2-bedroom setup, they have laundry and housekeeping which includes changing the sheets. The staff member was very accommodating and helpful in explaining the various facilities.
I like that Mountain Park Senior Living has both assisted and independent living because my father is more independent than my mother, and they were able to accommodate both of them. There's quite a few activities. They have a theater, a pool table, and an outdoor pool. They have scheduled events, too. They do housekeeping -- but only once a week -- and they provide three meals a day. They do have a shuttle service within a reasonable distance. It seems like a very nice community, but it's rather pricey for what they offer.
Mountain Park is a fairly new facility – less than two year old, 2 story structure is located in the suburban area of Ahwautukee. It is very nicely landscaped, with dual entrances for the both assisted and independent living residents. It also has a memory center. I came in through the assisted living section, with a reception area and dining area, and was greeted by caregiver, who was very pleasant, and offered to take me through to the independent living section, which she did. On the way, I passed the dining area – very busy, with atmosphere of chatter, and residents were enjoying dinner. Tables were covered with glass over tablecloths, pretty centerpieces, and mostly four-tops – creating a restaurant atmosphere. Glass water pitchers added a nice touch. Signs hung with chalkboard and hemp talked of upcoming events and registration opportunities – again, a casual, but very warm and friendly atmosphere. Overall based on public area observation and atmosphere: 5 Rating.
Facility: Mountain Park is a great facility offering multi-care levels – Independent & Assisted Living, 2 types of Memory Care, and a Skilled Nursing unit. One of my favorite things about Mountain Park is that they are pet friendly, so the residents are able to bring their pets with them or adopt a pet after moving in. Pet therapy in senior living has proven time and time again to work wonders with the residents. Pets decrease feelings of depression, lonliness, and abandonment. They also help the residents to still feel needed as the residents can care for them and walk them, feed them, etc. Pets can help to keep the residents active, through playing and walking them and they help to keep the residents independent and responsible. The only time I don’t like pets in a senior living community is when the staff doesn’t do an excellent job of keeping the community clean and sanitary. It is awful walking into a pet-friendly community and smelling foul odors, seeing urine/feces stains or waste that was not picked up, or seeing fur all over the furniture, carpets, etc. Mountain Park does an excellent job at keeping the community impeccably clean and smelling fresh. There are many common areas for socialization and plenty of things available to keep residents happy, entertained, and active. There are many sitting areas, there is a library/computer room, movie theater, resident gym, salon, club and conference rooms, activity/game rooms (with a pool table), a private dining room for private events, and more. Outdoors, you will find an inviting swimming pool, a great courtyard patio with table/chair sets with umbrellas for shade, a gardening table for those residents who love to garden, walking paths, a beautiful garden, sitting areas, and more. There are also a lot of grassy areas for pets to play. The staff members treat the residents exceptionally and the care provided is truly one of the kind. The staff members are beyond respectful, patient, and caring. I deeply admire all they do for the residents each and every day. Services/Amenities: Another perk of living at Mountain Park is that they offer amazing concierge services before you even move in – and most of the services are included in your monthly fees! They will even help you pack, assist with estate sales, and help you move into the community. They will then assist you in preparing your apartment just the way you like. Once there, the concierge services will help you arrange travel plans, restaurant reservations, entertainment/concert tickets, salon/spa/massage services, veterinary care and grooming services for your pet, gift wrapping and shipping/mailing services, laundry services/dry cleaning, personal training/fitness programs, prescription services, transportation services, party planning, and so much more. Whatever you need, all you have to do is ask! Activities: The activity calendar month to month is always packed full of creative and entertaining activities that will appease the mind, body, and spirit. I like that the activity calendar is always available on the community’s website so that family members can keep informed of the activities available to their loved ones. Resident Apartments: At Mountain Park, residents have the option of 2 types of Studios, a 1 bdrm/1 or 2 bath or 2 bdrm/1 or 2 bath apartments. Each floorplan is well-designed offering space and being very creative with the square footage. The smaller studio has a cute kitchenette, but all of the other apartments all have fully-equipped kitchens with stoves/fridge/microwaves, etc., which is awesome for residents who like to prepare snacks at home and the resident is able to stock the kitchen area and refrigerator with their favorite foods/drinks. There are also walk-in closets in all of the apartments which is awesome for extra storage space. With the concierge services, you can have someone come in and offer interior decorating assistance in your new home. Food Service: I have enjoyed meals here several times and each time was delicious. There are so many menu choices at each meal and the food is prepared using the freshest ingredients. One of my favorite aspects of the food service at Mountain Park is that you can eat whenever you want! Let’s face it, sometimes residents just aren’t hungry at mealtimes – here at Mountain Park, the residents (not the kitchen staff) chooses when and what to eat, no matter the time of day. Residents are welcome to eat in the dining hall, order in room service or eat where, when, and how they please. Options are plentiful at Mountain Park! The residents always seem so incredibly happy, relaxed, and full of life at Mountain Park. This community is one of my favorites in categories across the board. I don’t think I have ever had one negative opinion about Mountain Park, which is outstanding considering just how opinionated I can be!
