Description of Colonial House

Welcome to Colonial House! Over 60 years ago, a group of citizens decided that Parkersburg, West Virginia needed a ladies retirement home. After legally combining three separate bequests into one, land was purchased, architectural design created, and land was broken.
Since then, a non-profit corporation named Wood County Home Corporation (dba Colonial House) has existed at 1517 23rd Street. Today, our Board of Directors is still a citizen-volunteer board. Additionally, men have been welcome here since 2005.
Each of our private rooms measures 15' x 15' with individual environmental controls and a private bathroom with shower, complete with built-in seat and grab bars.
Residents may bring their own furniture and decorate as they please. Colonial House furniture is an option at no additional cost, depending on availability.
Only a few minutes away is Parkersburg City Park, grocery shopping, pharmacies, restaurants, and much more.
We provide a 24-hour staff in a hotel-like, dignified, secure, and convenient location serving 3 delicious meals each day, as well as providing housekeeping and linen service once a week. There is a free-of-charge laundry room for our residents to do their own personal clothing.
Our front entrance area is a beautiful, large gathering space for visiting with our fellow residents and other visitors. There are weekly calendar events such as music performance, singing, games, discussions, and study groups.
Colonial House is accessible to those who can walk to our lovely dining room for meals. Residents must manage their own medication as prescribed. Family or friends may assist in setting up weekly pill boxes. Residents are able to dress and bathe themselves, and manage any incontinence issues.
Private assistance may be obtained by the resident occasionally for personal needs. Our residents have the freedom of coming and going as they please. We offer convenient off-street parking should a resident maintain an automobile.
