I was able to visit Carolina Gardens. Their carpet was old and I did not like it at all, but I liked that they had a closed-off bedroom. The rooms could be a little bit bigger, and the closets were a little small. The staff was cordial, and they've done very well on the tour. They don't have any activities right now, but they showed me the courtyard, and they've done very well in following Covid protocols.

My stepfather is now at St Gabriel of Murrells Inlet. As far as I'm concerned, everything there is wonderful and I'm very happy so far. I understand my stepfather is very happy there, too. My interactions with the staff have been good; I've only dealt with one. My stepfather's apartment is fabulous. They have a calendar of things to do, so there are lots of things there my stepfather can busy himself with. They have a library, a physical therapy type thing, a courtyard, a nice community room, two really nice dining rooms, two or three TV rooms, and a movie room with movies every night. They also have bird watching and puzzles. I haven't heard any complaints about the food. The facility is very clean, very nice and beautifully decorated.

I wanted Carolina Gardens at Garden City for my aunt because it was right down the road from my house. It was fabulous and very clean, and the staff was very professional. They brought me into an office and they made my aunt happy and they interacted with her even with the COVID and everything. Everything was very professional. The woman in charge of getting my aunt in was fantastic. The facility was very nice. They gave me a booklet of everything that they do as far as activities and movies and stuff like that. She hasn't moved in yet, but I've inquired with other people that are in there how terrific it is. I was told the food was very good, and it was in her price range. Everything that they offered is exactly what she needed.

My mom has moved into Carolina Gardens. The only reason she is still there is the price. They're nice enough, but the food is terrible. Half the time, my mom cannot eat. It is either hard or too mushy. I was there and had a meal with her to check it out. They moved so slow that the food could get cold from the kitchen to the table. One day, my mom and her friends who she eats with were served so late that they were the only ones left in the dining room. The food was awful. The staff members are friendly enough and nice to the residents; however, it took awhile to get things straightened out to have somebody come help my mom with her shower. She went three weeks when she first got there without a shower. When my mom was going in, she said, "Can I have a cup of coffee later if I want?" They said, "Sure, just ask somebody." She has a walker, so she can't go and get something herself and carry it. When she asked someone, "Can I have a cup of hot coffee in my room? I'm not feeling that well," they said, "No, you're mobile, you can go and get your own." They have happy hour on Friday and bingo. The great room could be a lot cozier because it is just some tables and chairs. I would put some comfortable seating and maybe a TV, so they could watch TV and chat amongst themselves. There's no TV. If they want to watch TV, they have to be in the room by themselves. There isn't a reading room like they talked about. My mom's room is small, but it's OK. They have some things they do and the people are nice to my mom, but she wouldn't be staying there if she had the money for one that is about $500 or $1,000 more. I would not rate Carolina Gardens very highly.
