I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom was at Manorcare twice for rehab. It was nice. It's your typical hospital nursing home set-up. There were two beds in a relatively small room with enough space for a night stand and a couple of chairs at each bedside and that's about it. It was a very typical nursing home set-up. The staff was very nice. We liked everybody that took care of her. The food seemed to leave a lot to be desired. It wasn't things that she liked. There was never an opportunity for a substitution. She was sicker, so sometimes they would just let her sleep through meals. They would bring her tray and drop it off, but because she was medicated, she was sleeping, and she wouldn't wake up. When somebody would come by and question why she didn't eat, she didn't even know the tray was there. She kinda had those incidences that were not good. There were a couple of incidents like that I thought were kind of a problem. Because of COVID, there weren't any activities. They were stuck in their room. Even as far as therapy, they were very reluctant to even take people out of their rooms. They didn't go to the central gym to get some of their therapy because they couldn't. It's hard to rate them fairly through COVID because things had to change first with so many things. My mom did better. Therapy did come and they did work with her. They took good care of her while she was there and that's important. They took pretty good care of her. She did well there and she was able to be discharged from there.

My mother is now in Norbert Personal Care. The staff members are very nice, very helpful, and very friendly. I like it. We are going to be trying to get her into a larger room because she is in a small room, but it is clean and well-lit. I'm very pleased with it. They give her her medicine, they give her her food, and they help her bathe, but I usually go and help her with that. Overall, I'm very pleased with them. Everybody has been very helpful. They are always there when you need them. The food is good too. It is also close to home, so that's nice.

I visited this facility

We looked at the Paramount. We saw people eating in the dining room area, and we saw people in the rec room place. There was a place for cards, a rec room, a place to eat, and a big lobby. The dining room wasn't like a cafeteria type place. We are leaning towards Paramount. I like it. It is small so it is homier. It is not overwhelmingly large, which we like. Everyone seems nice.

I visited this facility

I liked that there was no huge financial upfront commitment at Sunrise of McCandless. I liked the location, convenience, rooms, and amenities, which were very nicely done. It's clean, bright, and had an outdoor place where people can walk around which was something that's attractive to us. We thought the pricing was manageable and in the right range. I would highly recommend it to other families.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Mt. Lebanon was beautiful. The downside is if my loved one needed more care, she would have to move to another room. The dining area was lovely. They had mass and entertainment in the afternoon. The people there seemed younger and more mobile.
