We went to Kentridge Senior Living. We had an in-person tour. We met them outside and then we got to look in the window. We only saw one room. I think it was in the assisted living side, but they said it would be pretty similar to what the memory care side looked like. We couldn't go inside because of COVID. We were on the grounds. They walked us down the sidewalk and we could look in at a window. We went around the back and we could look in the door and see the dining room a little bit. Because of COVID you can't really see anything much. The appearance of it looked nice, it looked inviting, and it looked comfortable. My biggest impression was of the people that we met with. They were very accommodating, very forthcoming, and very supportive. There was a lot of good information, too. Until you actually go there, you don't really know, but it seemed very family-oriented and there is really a lot of support for the families. They seemed to be very caring about the residents with memory care in providing the best service that they could. They were very cognizant of what the residents go through in a transition, moving from one place to another -- especially with dementia -- and how difficult that is. It sounded like they were attentive to the resident's needs to get them acclimated. Their memory care sounded very supportive and very involved as far as getting the residents up and out. They also have a schedule-type day, which is what my mother-in-law wasn't getting where we are now. However, circumstances have changed with her health. We just decided that it wasn't good to move her. We met two of the staff members. They were very attentive. They were very good at calling us back with any information.

Independence Village of Aurora was a beautiful community. It's very comfortable and not clinical looking, and the staff seemed very friendly. The apartments were a nice size. The independent side had balconies and access to the courtyard. Small pets were allowed. The person who showed me around was fabulous and answered a lot of my questions. They had Bible study, but my mom would have liked more religious things. Their dining room was gorgeous. It's like a 5-star restaurant.

We're going to choose Gables of KentRidge for our mother. My sister and I are both impressed with the memory care training that they have there. They have weekly memory care training. The place itself is nice, clean, and comfortable. The director talked with us, and he mentioned that he even had his mother staying there. The staff was very friendly and the memory care program they have looked good. We liked the room. It wasn't real big, but it was just the right size for my mother. They have motion detectors and stuff, and it was very secure as far as that goes. The food was really well-made just based on the appetizers that we had. The food was presented nicely, and we talked with the chef. The place was a little bigger and roomier than the other places. What I liked was that they have some rooms setup for occasions and get-togethers. They even have a so-called Country Kitchen that you can use if you want to for family gatherings and things like that.
