Description of Holiday Pinecrest

You'll be instantly charmed by our peaceful, rural setting that's just a short drive from Charlotte, Asheville, Blowing Rock and Boone. Residents enjoy the convenience of being close to all the entertainment, dining healthcare and shopping opportunities of these cities while still living in the pastoral beauty of North Carolina. We're only four miles from Lake Hickory and the Catawba River, and you'll also want to explore Maple Grove and the historic Bunker Hill Bridge – one of two surviving covered bridges in the state. You'll love coming home to our warm and caring staff and all the new friends you'll meet with us. We look forward to having you.

Pinecrest is owned and operated by Holiday Retirement, a company in the business of providing comfort, value and security to seniors. Since 1971, Holiday has been creating cheerful communities for individuals who want to enjoy an independent and enriching retirement.

Accommodations come in a selection of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, all of which are spacious and attractively laid out, each with either a balcony or a patio. Catch up with your neighbors over a game of pool  in our billiards room or a round of cards in our game room.

The professional chefs at Pinecrest cook three meals daily, featuring freshly prepared dishes that are as nutritionally balanced as they are delicious. When family and friends come to visit, you can invite them to enjoy a meal in our private dining room.

Available Services

If you take a close look around our community, you may notice that a few of our residents stand out. These are our Community Managers, who live on site to provide 24-hour support and security. You'll see them sharing a meal with residents in our dining room, attending one of our social events and taking the time to make sure each and every one of our residents feel welcomed and included.

We understand that each individual is unique and that needs may change over time. Holiday does not provide any health care services. However, residents are welcome to receive services from any outside home health care provider of their choice to help them continue enjoying life at our community.

Pinecrest, with our welcoming staff, lively and friendly neighbors, and beautifully landscaped grounds, is a great place for you to call home.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is in Pinecrest and she moved in about a month ago. It's a wonderful place, it feels very much like a resort, and the residents have their own little apartments. The food is really good, she gets to exercise and go on runs, and it's set in a neighborhood area. It's close to grocery stores and doctor's offices, and they offer transportation to local stores. She's very happy. She has a 1-bedroom apartment with a living room, and a good size balcony, that looks out over a secluded nook with plants and trees. She's got a big bedroom with a big bathroom that has a walk-in shower.

I visited this facility

I had a very nice visit at Pinecrest. They had enough room and it was fully furnished, but you can bring your own furniture. Two residents came up and talked to me. All of the staff was very nice, from the office staff to the food preparation staff. They tried to welcome me and made me feel good. They had programs that you can attend, and places where you can travel, but it was a little expensive for me.

I Visited This Community

Pinecrest was very nice, and I would recommend it to anyone who could afford it. The whole place was clean, modern, updated, and upscale. The manager or administrator was very nice and accommodating. It was conveniently located near grocery stores, drugstores, churches, and shopping centers.

I Visited This Community

I spent a night at Pinecrest. The staff member I talked to was fine and very kind. We had several conversations on the phone and through emails before I went over there. He is a great representative for that community. The room was fine, but I felt confined, and I’m not ready for that. I ate one meal, and the food was OK. My biggest issue was there were too many people in walkers and wheelchairs, and I just couldn’t live in that environment.

Pinecrest is lovely, clean, and neat. They have a lot of nice activities and provide a lot of services. They now have a doctor who goes there once a week for any issues. This is probably the best place in the Hickory area. They have a lot of musical things like piano and singing. They take the residents to shopping once or twice a week. They also do cards and bingo. My aunt never really had any complaints about the food there.

I visited this facility

Pinecrest Hickory would have been my first choice for my mom. It's clean and bright, and everyone seems to know everybody's names. Since it's independent living there's a lot of ins and outs going on. Because of COVID everyone wears masks, which is good. It's laid out very well. It has an open atrium laid out in the middle with all of the activities around that and the rooms shoot off of that down hallways. It's very friendly. They have their own library, a chapel, music area, and several gathering areas on each floor that encourage people to get together. Someone was putting puzzles together when I visited and there's a reading room. The person who accommodated me during my visit was great. He was very considerate of my mom, answered any questions with her directly, and showed us several room options for her. It was great.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

I wrote a review several months ago but because it was very negative, they did not post it. People have a right to know the truth. Although it looks nice on the outside, once you get inside the walls of the units, its another story. Housekeeping is a joke. Within 3 months of my dad and his wife moving in there, he fell in the elevator and broke his hip and she was out for an unsupervised walk behind the property and fell and died of a brain injury. The people at the front counter are volunteers who live there and hand out keys to anyone. Very important items and money were stolen from my dad.
