My great-grandfather was here temporarily on respite and contracted COVID (at 97 years old) soon after arriving… and no one even called to tell us. We found out when his daughter went to try to visit him and they wouldn’t let her see him. Even after that, no one contacted us about him unless we reached out first. They let him sit in a wheelchair in his tiny room for over two weeks due to quarantine, and now his muscles have atrophied so much that he is unable to use his walker or have any sort of mobility, when he was able to do so just before entering Lakeland. They didn’t follow up on his personal hygiene, either, so when we picked him up after not being allowed on the premises to see him after two weeks, his health had diminished significantly. He complained about therapy, so they just let him quit and do nothing with no other intervention. This is absolutely unacceptable treatment of an elderly person, and now his family is just hoping and praying that his new (and improved) assisted living facility is able to help him get back the function and spirit that he lost during his time at Lakeland. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone even if they paid me to.
