Our four adjacent residences exemplify Rochester Presbyterian Home's mission, philosophy and vision for Elder care as we nurture relationships that feel like family within homes that are truly “home.”

It Can Be Different!

At Creekstone, there are no long corridors, imposing medical equipment or medication carts. Instead, you walk into a ranch-style family home with an accessible kitchen, large living/dining area and 14 bedrooms! The front porch and secure courtyard allow Elders the freedom to enjoy the outdoors.

Shahbazim are the key staff members of each residence. The Shahbazim assist Elders with their personal care and offer opportunities for Elders to connect and build relationships. They also make the meals and maintain the home.

Residence Guides include the administrator and two nurse/care-managers provide clinical support to the family of Elders in each of the homes.

Our experience has shown us that this model is particularly comforting for persons living with dementia. The small, home setting is familiar and reassuring. More importantly, the Eden Alternative philosophy embraced by all who work in the homes, assures that the Elders are honored, respected and loved as family.

The Eden Alternative

Founded In 1991 by Dr. Bill Thomas, the Eden Alternative has the potential of remaking the experience of aging and disability across America and around the world. Proponents of Eden are dedicated to bringing meaning and fulfillment to the lives of Elders through enlivening environments and eliminating the plagues of Loneliness, Helplessness, and Boredom.

What might be found in an Eden Alternative Residence?

• People of all ages
• Pets such as dogs, cats, birds, and fish
• Plants and gardens with flowers, vegetables, and lots of greenery
• Spontaneous, stimulating activity everywhere
• Elders giving care as well as receiving care
• Family & friends nearby or visiting
• Elders who have the opportunity to grow each day
• Staff who, together with the Elders, decide how life is lived and work is done.

The Eden Alternative evolves and enriches over time to change the culture of long term care. It is similar to planting seeds in a garden. Elders, residents, families, staff, and volunteers help to nurture these “seeds.” The goal is to teach ourselves to see environments as habitats for human beings rather than facilities for the frail and elderly.

With the Eden Alternative as a guide, Elders will grow and be ensured their rightful places of honor and respect.

Enhanced Memory Care

Memory loss is most often progressive and an Elder's abilities may increasingly be compromised. At Creekstone, it is our hope to care for each Elder through the end of life. Our Enhanced Care Residence will accommodate the needs of persons living with advanced dementia with additional staff support. We also are able to partner with a home care agency to provide hospice care when the need arises.
