My dad moved into Sunrise of Annapolis in February. It is very nice and convenient and has all of the services he needed. However, it is pricey. The staff members are very helpful and very conscientious. They provide medication management, laundry, and housekeeping. They also help him with bathing, dressing, and transfering from his wheelchair to his chair to his bed. They serve three meals a day. From what I have seen, the food is very good. There are lots of male residents right now, so they try to cater some of the activities specifically to them. They have church services, hot shaves, movie nights, and different outings.

My mother-in-law stayed at Sunrise of Annapolis for a year. It was excellent and was a much bigger facility. 70% of their memory care people are kind of sedentary and not very active. They loved her there, and she had a good attendant who worked with her. The food wasn't gourmet, and they try to keep it very simple but nutritious, and their desserts were great. Everything else was really fabulous. Their bistro was expensive, but you can get popcorn and tea. They're just bigger and more elegant. They also had lots of grounds for people to go out and sit. The staff was good, and we had a good relationship with them. They?re always there, engaging, and excellent. They had bowling and religious services, and they take them out at least once a month.

Somerford Place is a good facility for people who are still walking and able to care for themselves. The design of the building is very well thought out for dementia patients. There are only 2 caregivers responsible for 16 people. Therefore, once the resident declines and requires more assistance, Somerford fails. They cannot accomodate your loved one's needs and the residents DO suffer. The caregivers are required to do too much which results in constant turnover and low morale. Somerford Place is expensive but the employees are paid little over minimum wage by the large, apathetic corporation.
