My brother and I went to take a tour of the facilities, we were looking for a place for our parents. My brother got there early and noticed a woman sitting and began talking to her. She was hanging her head down and was sweating profusely. When asked if she was alright she told him that she had gone out for a walk and got lost. She was new to the area and one of the staff had told her that there were new flowers that had been planted and she should go out and take a look. They told her if she stayed on the sidewalks they would lead back to the front door. It was an extremely hot day (90+ and high humidity). Long story short, she got lost and found herself in a sub-division. Thankfully she knocked on a door where the owner called Alden and someone came and picked her up. She thought she had been gone around 2 hours. When we related the story to our tour guide her response was 'She was only gone about 45 minutes and doesn't know the area'. Needless to say our parents are at another assisted living venue.
Let me start off by saying this is a wonderful facility. The staff is amazing and caring, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere as a whole is incredibly welcoming. I've visited my grandmother at Gardens a number of times, and I'm always greeted with a smiling face at the front desk, and the residents always appear to be active. However, the last time I visited I was unfortunately at the lobby when I overheard something outrageous. As I was sitting with my grandmother, a lady came in asking to speak with Kelley. Anna, who is a receptionist, went to get Kelley from the back. I stopped focusing on their conversation, until I saw and heard the lady getting excited. What I heard next really upset me. The lady accused Kelley of signing an agreement that would allow the down payment to be refunded if her parent(s) chose to not live at Alden. Kelley than on to say that she threw away the contract that they signed regarding the down payment. In disbelief, the lady went on to get even more excited and began raising her voice. Essentially, she was duped out of $1500 dollars(She made it clear numerous times it was 1500) because she trusted Kelley and had her signature on paper, just to find out Kelley threw that very contract away. This is the only reason why my review on the staff is low. The vast majority of the time, the staff is incredible. However, this experience I shared with everyone in the room, made me have a different opinion about Alden. I still cannot believe to this day, that something like this could happen. I was embarrassed sitting there, and I hope to God that lady was compensated in a way. I lost so much respect for Kelley that afternoon, and it is by far one of the most busch-league things I've ever encountered at a place of business.
Alden is well kept and the campus is beautiful, including walking paths around campus. All activities are included unless off site with favorites being Bingo, cards and book club. Most activities are run by the perky activities staff with residents having a lot of input and some activities are even resident ran. Probably the best feature is the dining which is ran by an executive chef. Residents get to order off a daily menu, featuring specials each meal, and includes two soups of the day (another resident favorite). CVS is located practically on campus but there is nothing else within walking distance so residents do rely on outings to go shopping or other entertainment. Pets are allowed but residents are responsible for seeing they are taken care of if they are not able to.
