The District of Columbia retirement communities are very different than other types of living situations for senior citizens. Retirement communities are meant for people who are still living independently and do not require any sort of assistance. The community does typically provide housekeeping and meals for the residents, but typically not more than that. Assisted living homes will help the senior with basic functions like bathing, changing clothes and assisting with seniors in taking medication but don’t require constant medical attention. For 24-hour nursing/medical attention, seniors would need to find nursing home care.
