My aunt lived at Brookdale Hockessin. They put on a good face when they're touring you but after the person gets there, it's a different situation. It only lasts for a month or two and then it starts being really impersonal. It wasn't a good, friendly atmosphere. I really got disillusioned with it when my aunt left because she was sick, and for two and a half weeks after she left, no one from the facility called to ask me how she was doing. The staff was lacking and not hands-on. They were very clinical, but if you called for them to do anything of what they called extra, they'd be like, "I'm not getting paid to do that, I'm only getting paid to do this." Them being cordial and helpful wears off. My aunt's room was OK, but they only had one person that did housekeeping. You basically had to wait for a long time, and they'd say, "I'll get to it when I get to it." It's very expensive.

My brother and I had to make a difficult decision about putting our mom in a assisted living home. Out of all the ones we looked at Brookdale was the best fit for mom. Smaller than most which we thought was perfect for our mother. Other places we looked at were Hugh and felt she would not get the help that she needed. We spoke with Lisa who is the Sales Manager and she is Amazing she took us for a tour and answered all our questions. Friendly Staff, nice rooms with views, clean, lots of activities for them to do. Mom loves to have her hair done on a regular basis and the hairdresser Barbie is Fantastic! Dining room and food is great and the servers are kind and friendly especially Juicy. DeCarla is the head of nursing I think and she is wonderful and answers all our questions when needed. Very pleased with Brookdale.
