My mom was at Scottsdale Village Square. The rooms and the apartments were large. It wasn't like a hotel, but it had larger outside grassy areas and larger outside visual areas. They had a recurring menu. They switched it around, but it was the pretty much the same thing. Sometimes it was something hard, chewy or crunchy, and things that an older person would have a harder time swallowing or eating. They had set meal times too. This was her first time ever being anywhere other than her own home for 40 years, so with her dementia, coming into a new place and the changes, she was disruptive and not cooperative at times. This was all very new to her. They had some patients with that scenario, but more often than not, they were impatient. They felt like she was not a good fit for their facility. They sent me a letter saying I had two weeks before I would need to find her something else. Technically that's illegal. I talked to ombudsman and a few other places that deal with this, and Scottsdale Village Square actually has to give you four weeks' notice. Also their reasons weren't legitimate and proven. I didn't feel that everything was done fairly and on the up and up, especially toward the end.
Scottsdale Village Square was a nice place and the apartments were a little small, but nice. There were nice outdoor areas for the residents to go to.
Scottsdale Village Square was homey, and the rooms were fine. They were very accommodating. The people and residents, the interior and exterior, the kitchen, and the meals were all nice.
We were very impressed with Scottsdale Village Square. We met with Tara. She was very nice and walked us around the facility. It was very well maintained. The people looked very happy to be there and the employees looked very happy as well. The 1-bedroom apartment was very nice, maintained, and cleaned well. Overall, we were very impressed with the facility. There was a swimming pool and they had easy access to public transportation. There was a little library and a meeting room. The other staff seemed very nice, very friendly and approachable.
The rooms were small at Scottsdale and inadequate for me, they don’t have a kitchen, so there’s no way of cooking food on your own. Although they provide all the meals, one doesn’t always want to do that, and their solution is to provide a microwave. I wasn’t too impressed with that. The facility was nice, including the grounds, but there was no covered parking. You make use of amenities in a senior center, but they provide a bus for transport.
I'm in Scottsdale Village, and overall, it's good. The facility and rooms are nice and kept clean. The outdoors are very well taken care of. Everything is repaired immediately if anything goes wrong. The food is good.
