My brother was in Olive Grove for respite. Its an older community that's pretty worn, but he likes the food. The staff seems to be nice; however, they use the same staff for multiple tasks. Hes concerned about that. Theres a shortage of staff, and so theres a delay in dispensing his medication. Hes irritated that hes missed opportunities to eat breakfast, or go to the meals, when its time to go to the meals. However, I looked at their reviews, and theyre rated very high.
Olive Grove is a 3 story, older facility, but every visible unit has a balcony, which was very appealing. Though older, the landscaping was well maintained, grassy, and perhaps “pet-friendly”, as I observed 2 seniors walking their small dogs. It is adjacent to a large apartment complex and just south of a large park – both easy walking distances for seniors. Flowers and personal home decorations on each balcony gave an indication that residents felt “at home”. There is covered parking. I was able to chat briefly with a resident who has been there seven months, and “loves it”. She stated the staff was very helpful and responsive. She also commented the food was very good, and everything was very clean. She did mention she would like more activities, but spoke about art programs, a recent song group, and the availability of a shuttle as all positive. Based on the above observations only, I would rate this facility four-star.
The facility is situated in a older area but its location makes sense as there are not too many assisted living facilities in that area. The entrance is clean and friendly looking. The receptionist is always on duty. It is a modest facility but really clean. You can tell that somebody takes special efforts to create a good living environment for the residents. There are three restaurant-style meals daily, plus snacks in a beautiful dinning room. Good size portions. The service is also always very good during meals. I have seen many happy faces there every single time when I go for a visit. Social, cultural, and recreational activities take place in a special area and residents do like to participate as I've seen a large number gather for those activities every single time. Scheduled local transportation is offered and that is very helpful for the residents with no family or those who's family aren't able to help them. All interior and exterior maintenance is taken care of promptly so the place looks cared for and comfortable. There is 24-hour staffing on site. It seems like there are enough caregivers and care managers during the week, but it falls short of personnel on weekends. I think they should hire more weekend staff. Wellness and life enrichment programs is a relatively new feature to this facility and they need to work more with the residents to develop this area. Laundry and housekeeping are done daily so it is not hard for residents to be accommodated with those services. There is a full-service beauty salon with great prices that help residents to stay groomed and nice. Apartment amenities are average nothing fancy or out of the ordinary. Plush wall-to-wall carpeting or hardwood floors is a very good feature along with kitchenettes in some units. Residents can make a choice. Every apartment has a good size closet and storage space, private mailboxes, and emergency response system. The community is very well prepared to accommodate any emergency and provide for all levels of care. I think that the community is a great place for this area of town, in fact one of the best. Visit them and do your home work and please keep in mind that comfort and good care doesn't need to come with elegance.
Located off of Indian School Road, smack dab in front of a large gas station, and surrounded by busy apartment buildings it is surprising how generally peaceful this building is on the inside. Although its gone through some freshening, it still remains a bit dark on the inside, but with the friendly residents and attentive staff milling about, it has a bright atmosphere. Home to both independent and assisted living residents enjoying quite roomy apartments, beautiful garden area, and a great dining program. Having gone through various ownership changes over the past few years, it seems to have fallen into capable and caring hands this time around and looks and feels better than ever. The activities are keeping the residents busy and smiling and the care staff does a good job in keeping them healthy. There is no disguising the fact that its is an older property and will never be confused with some of the grander buildings further east into Scottsdale, but it seems to be a great fit considering the area its in and will be a fantastic home for those in that area to stay close to friends and family, and to get the extra help they need as they need it.
