The first-ever San Francisco Age March is to be held this Sunday, August 8th, with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. The event will be held in Crissy Field at Sports Basement in San Francisco. Organized by author and gay activist Barbara Rose Brooker, the Age March aims to "raise awareness and begin to break down the myths, stereotypes and social pressures causing age discrimination, shame and negative attitudes towards aging in our culture."
Registration is $10.00; children 10 and under are free. The one-mile march begins at 10:00 a.m.
People of all ages are invited to join the march and celebrate their real age. The theme of the Age March encourages individuals at any age to "Shine On," and celebrate aging as a positive experience. People are living longer, and age should not be a barrier to continued growth and contributions to society.
Whether you're 20, 40, 60, or 80, consider joining the Age March to show your pride for your own age and to support your parents, grandparents, and other elders. If you're an organization wanting to get involved, you can check out sponsorship opportunities by visiting the Age March website.
