The Meadows Senior Living Community had a super enthusiastic intake person who gave us the tour. They asked us to come at lunchtime so we could try the food. They had an interior courtyard, so the building was built in a big square. That way, even their memory care people can go outside. It also offers one thing that the other places don't and that was respite care. If you want to try it out or if you just need to be off a week or a month, your loved one can come in and stay for a short time. We went ahead and tried a three-day stay with my husband there at their memory care unit. They had a theater where they can watch TV, plus a couple of TVs around the place. They showed me an activity center. We tried the food two times when we were there and it tasted fine. They had soup and sandwich both times we were there. My tour was very good. However, when I brought my husband in to check him in, the intake person was busy somewhere else and without her there and her happy personality, I almost didn't leave him. I really had to push to make things satisfactory. It's the only one in our area that offers respite care, so I probably will go back and use them again. The thing that I found a little disturbing is that when I called and asked if they had given him his medications yet, which he's supposed to get in the morning and check his blood sugar, it was 10:00 and they said not yet. When I picked him up, the bed they had him in had a metal frame and evidently he had walked too close to the bed and he had cuts on his legs from the metal frame and I was not happy about that. He is a diabetic and has some problems healing so this is not what you want to happen. I asked him if he told them about his cut and he said no. I thought somebody should've checked on him. It seemed to me they did not have enough personnel for the amount of patients. I was not impressed with their staff except for the intake lady who was super and hasn't been there very long. She said that she's going to have all the staff go into meetings on how to care for people with Alzheimer's and dementia. I'm hoping it will get better.
The Meadows is brand new, they have a brand-new memory care facility that I looked at, which I decided to move my mom into. The rooms were larger than average size, the staffing ratio was on par (or greater), and the training was superior to the others I looked at. I liked the administrator there, she's very thorough, and very conversant with memory care issues. They have an onsite beauty parlor, they have a doctor that comes on a regular basis, an RN who oversees the whole operation, and all their staff is CNA, with training in memory care.
I went to The Meadows. I really liked it. Everything is well-kept and well managed. The staff is friendly. They also have a doctor on staff. There is a beauty shop and a small theater. The rooms are very nice. Some have patios, and on the ground floor, they have a courtyard for you.
