Description of Brookdale Medical Center Whitby
Welcome to San Antonio's Brookdale Medical Center Whitby (formerly Sterling House at the Medical Center), a senior community in a charming setting providing the finest in personalized assisted living care and services. Our community is located next to Brookdale Nacogdoches and Brookdale Patriot Heights, so that together we can offer seniors a full spectrum of independent living, assisted living and memory care services. We take pride in offering care that is highly individualized, and we are dedicated to helping residents live as independently as possible.
Brookdale Medical Center Whitby is a Brookdale community. As one of the nation's largest owners and operators of senior living communities, we are constantly innovating and evaluating new and better methods for enriching the lives of our residents.
Our beautiful, single-story building was designed to provide comfort and easy access for those with limited mobility. Common areas throughout the community are ideal for gathering with friends or quietly relaxing. Residents love to warm by the fire in our family room, tend their favorite plants in our outdoor garden areas, and get their hair done at our on-site beauty/barber shop.
Living spaces at Brookdale Medical Center Whitby are bright and cheery, and residents choose from a selection of private and companion one-bedroom suites. Included are plush carpeting, private baths, kitchenettes, balconies and emergency response systems. We encourage residents to decorate with their personal furnishings and bring a small, beloved pet for that truly homelike feel.
Our caring staff is available 24/7 to assist with personal tasks in the privacy of residents' apartments, including bathing, dressing, grooming and eating. We partner with residents to design a personal service plan that meets their changing needs.
Our dining program includes an enticing menu of superbly prepared meals, served by trained wait staff in our elegant dining room. Integral to life here are the outings and stimulating activities held throughout the week, including education programs, morning coffee socials, walking groups, movie nights, trivia quizzes and music events.
For a community with something for everyone, Brookdale Medical Center Whitby offers the best in assisted living.

I Visited This Community
The location is the best part of this facility. It is located about one mile from HEB, Wells Fargo bank, and many shopping centers and salons. The property is clean, beautifully landscaped, and quiet. The facility is clean inside with a wide open floor plan and a functional layout. Inside, it is very quiet and peaceful. The dining room is fair in design, but the food is good. I did not like the pork steak, but the sides were good and flavorful. I didn't see much variety in the menu, but the residents do have the opportunity to choose from at least three entrees. The staff members do and awesome job in making sure that all of the residents in the dining area are served and eat some of their meal. They walk around and ask if everyone is doing well. They are attentive and caring. Activities here seemed to be a bit lacking. There are game days, but not enough variety. I noticed that most residents here preferred to stay in the room or socialize in the sitting areas. A handful of residents were outside on the patio. It seemed that there may need to be a few more activities to spark the interest of some of the residents. Amenities are great here. There are rooms to exercise, spaces to read, and nice rooms inside where the residents live. Very friendly residents, although most were reserved in conversation. There is not a lot of liveliness here, but there were a few of the residents who appear upbeat. This Brookdale Medical Center Whitby suits best seniors who do not like a lot of interruptions and prefer to stay in their rooms and read a book rather than participate in a lot of activities. This is a good facility for seniors needing assistance with living tasks because the staff here are very attentive. I may have chosen this facility for my father who does not like to participate in many outdoor activities. Still, I would have preferred him to participate more and have activities that he could enjoy such as picnics, barbecues, and volunteer options.
