Overview of Hawaii Memory Care

The Executive Office on Aging (EOA) and the Hawaii Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) are two government offices devoted to providing information and resources to seniors and their families. The State Task Force on Alzheimer's disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) was formed in a partnership with the Alzheimer's Association and the EOA and is actively working towards addressing the needs of those with Alzheimer's and related dementias.

Memory Care in Hawaii Defined

While researching memory care for a loved one, many people become confused with the different options available and are not sure what is and is not appropriate for the senior needing care. A person suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's needs care specifically tailored to suit the unique needs that come with memory loss. An independent living community is not intended for residents with special needs and would not be an adequate solution for a person suffering from a memory loss disorder. An assisted living community may have what is required, provided the facility specifically offers memory care. Hawaii memory care communities offer assistance with everyday tasks that are part of daily life, such as dressing, eating, bathing, taking medication, mobility and more, as well as 24-hour supervision and therapies targeted at retaining memory.
