I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

Don't be fooled--BEAUTIFUL place, but a disaster of mismanagement and incompetence. Broken toilet? (…from another resident wandering into my mom’s room to flush various items from her shelves down the loo, thereby stopping it up…) Well, get this: paying almost $7000.00/month for a private suite, my mom is told “just use the public toilet down the hall...we can’t be bothered” - - (too much trouble/too great an expense over the weekend). Apparently the convenience of management takes precedence over BASIC health/ care/ sanitation needs of the people in their charge. The toilet was broken for more than a week, leaving her to scoop out “contents" after using it (!!), then wrap in paper towels and place in a bucket!!! Now that’s what I call service!!!! You will hear all about their state of the art philosophy of memory care incorporating the teachings of Teepa Snow when you visit, leading you to draw the obvious conclusion that this is the most wonderful place around and (if you can afford the steep prices) you will gladly sign on. HOWEVER -- we have been bitterly disappointed with what is actually going on inside. There is little engagement with residents by care givers: they are too busy watching "Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After" on the big screen TV in the common area (while a senile resident sitting next to them stares off into space---yes, I can just imagine that's just what the resident paying $6000-7000 a month wanted to watch). This facility has an alarming LACK of leadership and zero follow through - - agreements made are not kept... complaints are not addressed... there is NO accountability. They lead people on with manipulative and empty promises--a dishonest and highly unethical practice, particularly when it comes to elder care (or more accurately, "abuse"). They should be ashamed of themselves, but it would seem that what goes around eventually comes around: with multiple complaints to the state of Oregon they are currently under investigation for numerous complaint issues. Even scheduled licensing visitations (when they are READY for "showtime") have revealed they are out of compliance... They were required to post a Restriction of Admissions Notice notice on their front door from the state of Oregon until they have satisfied the issues of non-compliance and resident complaints. In my opinion, they need an overhaul--- It is such a beautiful facility, full of potential, but without good leadership and ACCOUNTABILITY, with ethical standards of care in place, they shouldn't be in business and certainly not be given license to take advantage of people suffering with dementia and their families.

Staff doesn't seem to be engaged with residents and there are a lot of folks sitting with vacant stares or sitting by staff who are off task of working with the residents. They sit near them but do not engage them. Also, residents wandered into our parent's room and took things without being stopped. Looking at other reviews confirms what our family is experiencing. I am very disappointed as I thought this would be a great placement. I was wrong.

A word of warning to those interested in this place (because a tour of the facility will be very attractive). We were duly impressed by everything they showed us (the empty section with model rooms beautifully furnished) and chose a large private room that was in a wing yet unoccupied. We were told it would be another month, maybe two, until that wing opened up, but the room would be reserved for us. In the meantime, our mom was put into a "shared" room by herself, but rather than being charged the fee for this smaller size room, we are having to pay almost $3000.00 more for the FUTURE large private room we are "GOING" to be moved into - - - that was the deal we signed on for, thinking it would only be a month of waiting, 2 months at the most, until she could move into the room she selected. So - - we waited one month, then two months, then three months, then four months, and now going on five months, with no end in sight, still paying close to $7000.00 for a room that should be renting for $4400.00. I think this is their little scam going on - - to promise something and never deliver on it, but still charge the additional 3K to "reserve" it until that wing is opened - - well guess what? The facility did not pass inspection by the state licensing bureau, so now they have closed off any new move ins until they've been cleared by the state and passed the licensure inspections... meaning, they are NOWHERE NEAR being able to open the new wing, but will still be charging us for the big room we may never have at this rate. The facility is beautiful, but understaffed, with underpaid, unhappy caregivers and plenty of turnover because anyone worthwhile as a new employee sees the level of incompetence going on and quickly leaves for greener pastures. We made a big mistake moving here and are being ripped off - - hopefully this review will spare you the same grief.

This is a lovely new facility, but poorly managed and NOT someplace I can recommend. It all sounds really great when the tour takes place, and you are led to believe it's going to be a wonderful array of stimulating one-on-one activities geared toward demential. Empty promises, agreements made but not kept, negligent maintenance and disrespectful treatment of residents, where convenience of management takes precedence over basic care needs of the people in their charge. I am completely shocked by the lack of consideration shown to residents... there is no excuse for this treatment. Quite a bit of turnover, and no one knows what they are doing - - also some very disturbing interactions with caregivers going into rooms and picking up residents' personal items as if to "borrow" them. I only wish I could have had this information before we made the move - - big mistake.
