  • Transportation assistance to and from medical appointments
  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital services
  • Emergency services
  • Laboratory services
  • Doctors visits and ambulatory services

  • Earn a maximum monthly income of $771 (individuals) or $1,157 (married couples)
  • Have maximum countable assets of $2,000 (individuals) or $3,000 (married couples), excluding certain items such as a home, primary vehicle and personal belongings
Additionally, certain seniors and people with disabilities may be eligible to receive long-term Medicaid care services provided at home or in an adult day care, assisted living facility or nursing home. For seniors to qualify for long-term care, they must meet the following financial criteria:

Seniors who meet the above long-term care financial criteria and require a nursing home level of care are entitled to receive care in a nursing facility. Some who meet the criteria, however, may also qualify for a Medicaid waiver program to receive services outside of a nursing home. Seniors should note that waivers are not an entitlement and that participants may be placed on a wait list before receiving services. To apply for Medicaid, Marion seniors should visit the Ohio Benefits webpage to complete the application online. Assisted Living Waiver Marion seniors who meet the above long-term care Medicaid criteria and who wish to live in a participating assisted living home may be eligible to enroll in the Assisted Living Waiver. To qualify, seniors should be able to pay rent at the established waiver rate and require a caregiver’s assistance for at least two activities of daily living such as eating, bathing or dressing. Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Residential State Supplement Through Ohio’s Residential State Supplement program, qualifying seniors may be eligible to receive financial assistance to help pay for residence and care in a Class Two Residential Facility. These facilities provide up to 16 unrelated residents with accommodations, personal care services and supervision. While assisted living homes with a capacity for 17 or more individuals do not generally qualify, they may be approved by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services on an individual basis if they exist in an area where there are no other eligible facilities. Senior residents may qualify for RSS if they meet the following conditions:

  • Meet a protective level of care or live in a nursing home and are willing to move to an eligible facility
  • Are eligible for Medicaid
  • Receive Supplemental Security Income, Social Security or Supplemental Security Disability Insurance
  • Earn no more than $1,300 in monthly income
  • Have no more than $2,000 in assets
Residents may apply by completing a printable application and emailing or faxing it to (614) 485-9747. Elderlife Bridge Loans Elderlife Financial bridge loans offer eligible seniors throughout the United States a short-term financial solution to paying for assisted living. These loans are available for terms of up to 12 months. Seniors of all ages can use them to pay for costs such as rent and move-in fees at an assisted living facility of their choice. Amounts distributed for expenses can be easily requested and sent directly to a facility as needed. To qualify for a bridge loan, seniors need to complete a short online application and include financial information such as income, assets and credit scores. While Elderlife uses this information to determine an applicant’s eligibility, those with low credit scores may still qualify if they use family members with higher scores to serve as co-applicants on the loan. Seniors who would prefer to apply over the phone may do so by calling (888) 228-4500.
