I wasn't impressed with the Gables of Brighton. They have pull-cords in the room, they have taller lips on the edge of the tub, and they have a tag on the door so they can tell if the resident opens their door. They check on them at night. It was kind of antiquated, but yet they charge more than others. The staff was good, and the people that worked and lived there seemed happy, but the building was an old building.

My mother moved into The Village at Unity, and so far so good. They're very helpful and very nice. She has a 1-bedroom, they serve her meals, they provide transportation, and they've a number of activities. They have outings to different stores, different restaurants, they have schools come in and do shows, and they have music every week. They play cards, they have movies, and parties. They have a beauty salon, a library, a garden, exercise rooms, and a yoga studio.

The Landing of Brighton was very warm, friendly, and has a very clean environment. It's definitely an assisted living, so I was a little disappointed because there weren't full kitchen facilities but I understand why they couldn't have it. It's for safety reasons. The other thing I didn't like about this place was that in a couple of units I was shown, they didn't have closets and they'll only get an armoire. The staff who gave me the tour was very knowledgeable, she knew all the rules, the regulations, she knew everything. I saw the residents sitting in common areas, but I didn't see any structured activities at the time. It was a very nice place, it's just not something we need. They gave me a lovely cake as well.

The Gables of Brighton was very dark and depressing. The apartment was even worse. The staff was very nice and very helpful. I liked him a lot. The dining area looked nice; however, the place itself was very dark and depressing. The apartment was expensive. I was not happy there.

I visited this facility

I have visited The Gables of Brighton three times and I like it a lot. I was shown a variety of their rooms but they're doing renovations so there's construction on some of the rooms. I was invited to their reopening and I got to see things again. On the schedule of activities that they gave me, I noticed that some of the same things were repeated every day of the week. You have to pay for cable. There's a pond on the property, they didn't have private patios but they do have group patios and balconies that are pretty spacious and that was okay. I met a few of the residents and the ones I talked to were very active and had certain things they liked to do. I had lunch there, and when they had their open-house there was plenty of food and there was a photobooth and lots of things to do. There seemed to be a lot of people using walkers in this place, but they still seemed to be able to get out. There's also parking space that I found there that's in the shade. The director, salesperson and most of the people and the rest of the staff are all friendly and open. They're set back a little bit on a pretty busy area, near a highschool, and near a lot of different places for shopping. Their food is fine, I had so much of their food.

My friend stayed at The Landing of Brighton assisted living. It's a beautiful place but the care leaves a lot to be desired since they're very short-staffed. My friend loved the food and the dining area. The rooms were gorgeous, and she loved them. They provided a lot of little games, movie days and nights, ice cream days and cookouts. They kept the people engaged. It's a brand-new and beautiful place. For the price, it's a pretty good deal. They're very understaffed and there's no communication among the people working there. I'd give the medical staff and aides a 1 because a lot of stuff came up missing and stolen from there.

Brookdale West Side Rochester was very good. The manager of the place gave us a tour, sat down with us, answered our questions, and gave us other things to think about. We toured the entire community. The tour was very well done. When we left there, we really didn't have any questions. It was nice that the residents all had his/her own private rooms. The staff was very friendly. The residents seemed like they were well cared for. The staff was really concerned about them and they knew everybody by name. They did have scheduled activities throughout the day. The activities manager would bring in a couple of ladies out of their rooms to take them to the activity room.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The Landing of Brighton - Rochester, NY is good. The staff is very helpful, are there whenever you need them, and participate in activities so you get to know them. The food is fine and they do try to do different things. They have Italian night and tie it in with some of the things going on. There's always a menu for those people who don't like what's on the menu. There's always something going on here and outside of the building. They generally cost additional money, but they let you know ahead of time if you want to go to those things. They're very good about getting you to doctors or if you have an animal that has to go to the pet doctor, that's here too. You can have an individual room with a bathroom, there are all kinds of things going on, and things go on outside the building, but it's pretty much by choice. You can participate if you want to (or not).

My mom likes Brookdale Brighton and we like it, but she is not ready to move right now. When it's time for her, she's going there because it's two miles away from where she lives now and it's very close to her friends. It's not as beautiful as the other place, but it's very homey, and comfortable. We looked at a studio and it really seemed big. We walked around and we saw the laundry rooms, which were huge. There was a two-hour window for you to go to a meal. You can go for lunch and eat between 11:00 and 1:00, which is a lot more flexible. The food was excellent. The staff was extremely friendly. It's not as modern, but it was clean, neat, attractive, and cozy. The outside had beautiful trees in the front, the landscaping was nice, and the inside was nice. It's a lot more affordable.
