Atria was one of the places we liked, and it seemed very well-run. It's a nice facility, and it had many of the facilities we would look for.
Atria Vista Del Rio was very clean. The director was very professional and very sweet. The staff was great. They served three meals a day and had a snack bar bananas and apples that you could go to any time, which I thought was very nice for the residents. We looked at a great two-bedroom.
My mother has been in Atria Vista Del Rio for 3 years now. The staff, the rooms, and the facility are nice. The activities are wonderful. She participates in more of their social activities. She has her own apartment, which has a kitchenette, but there's no stove. I've eaten there, and it's very good.
At Atria Vista del Rio, they didn’t have what I needed because my mother had become wheelchair and bed-bound. And I didn’t feel they had the staff available. The rooms were OK. My issue with them was that they couldn’t provide the level of care that she needed. I didn’t think the value was as good, but it’s better than where she was. They had a good calendar of activities. Their security was good, but I think they need more staff.
Atria Vista del Rio was very nice. The rooms were very nice, and the size was adequate for one person. The staff was very nice and friendly. They had a lot of activities and good food.
I found Atria to be warm, comfortable, and clean. I met the manager who took me on a tour and showed me all around. All of the residents seemed to be very content and friendly, and chatted with each other. I liked the dining facility especially and the fact that they had an ice cream parlor, which my friend would enjoy very much. It had a lot of activities. They took the residents off the campus to events, too. My friend was still mobile, so she would fit in at the community. However, I wished they had two-bedroom apartments, but they didn’t and the rooms were small. Also, they have a cookie bar in the living room, so guests could get coffee and freshly baked cookies. It was really warm, and I really liked it.
Our parent's experience has been awful. We have visited and stayed overnight many times, often for days in a row, so have observed first-hand all aspects over a long period of time. Mistakes have been made repeatedly with medications--at least 15 times in two years. Slightly different drugs and dad would've died. Medical technicians are often nice, but inexperienced. MED systems and procedures aren't always worked out. Picture all the possible drug and medication issues and they’ve pretty much all happened. The entire management staff has changed three times in two years, some positions--like chef, nurse/medical supervisor--three times. The food is not good for seniors because there are far more carbs and fats than vegetables and fruits. The meats are hard to chew. The residents have consistently been unhappy with the food. No special diets are offered except reduced sodium. Wait staff iis nice. The "Anytime Cafe'" is a refrigerator with rainbow bread 1/2 sandwiches with half an American cheese slice, a piece of lettuce and a small slice of lunch meat (up to 3 days old), small milk boxes and fruit juices. Occasionally there are fruit salads or some other overrun from the kitchen. The chips and fresh fruit (bananas and apples), as well as the coffee often run out. In fact, the entire facility ran out of food at least once and the snack stations more than once for three days so often the snack stations aren't stocked. The on-site events are fair but not all that interesting. The on-sight hairdresser is pretty good and nice. The transportation is restricted--residents have very little time to shop and doctor appointments must be made within a very narrow time frame. Loading and unloading the bus is unsafe. No one covers when the bus driver isn't available. No one ever uses the exercise equipment and we've never seen a physical therapist there unless it is one who guides the tiny class on chair exercises. Housekeeping is good and staff are really nice and competent, but laundry service is hit or miss: they turned our parent's white sheets pink. Billing errors were made for the first 5 -6 months, and medication billing and pharmacy errors continued for over a year. False fire alarms are frequent (and loud and the confused residents are required to stay in their rooms which many don't because it is so upsetting to them, especially at night) and the evacuation procedure is questionable and somewhat chaotic, especially given there is only the minimum legally required 1 staff member per 60 patients on duty at night, i.e. usually only 2-3 staff. There is virtually no security since people exiting can simply let you in after hours and no staff is anywhere near to screen anyone. Supposedly they can see through their inner office window and blinds, through the courtyard, through another set of windows and blinds, to and through the front doors. Right. But, the facility is beautiful. If looks are all you're interested in, this is your place. We will be moving our parent as soon as suitable location found.
