I toured Yardley Commons before. I thought it was lovely. The place was excellent. That's where I would want to put my uncle because they only had a ninety-day lease that you could do for the time being, but he refused to go, and there is no power of attorney over him or anything. I liked the ninety-day lease, and I liked that he didn't have to spend the $3500 to buy in. It was nice, it was clean, and the staff was friendly. Everything was terrific. It's independent living, but if you had to, you could buy a kind of nursing care where they would come and help you shower you twice a week, and they had physical therapy which he would have needed. They sent home some dessert and stuff that I gave to my uncle, and he liked them all.
I went to Yardley Commons. It was more independent living, so it wasn't a fit for my mother-in-law. They're very accommodating, and I still like that place. It's a little outdated, as far as appearance, but other than that, it seems like a nice place. We took a tour of the whole place and the actual residents area. It was clean, and it felt homey.
I had a bad time with Yardley Commons. They just didn't connect with me. I guess it was because the rules had changed and visitors were not allowed. It was just a bad day for them. They were short on explaining some things to me, and they should just give it to you right in your hand, a list of everything that you're gonna need to move into the place. They should also be able to tell you. I thought I could just go across the street to buy something like the furniture, but the department stores were all on pandemic hold too, and a lot of the furniture ... I had to wait two weeks for the furniture to come in. They wouldn't let me take the furniture from across the street. There were a lot of things that they could have been a little clearer about explaining -- and they knew I was gonna go across the street -- and I think they knew the story, and they knew what I was going through. Try to help people go through what they have to go through, give them the vision that they need to make a realistic plan. They showed me the facility about two weeks prior. They showed me the courtyard, they were all sitting in that big day room, and I just looked at the studios. It was fine. I just didn't like the way the staff interacted with me. It seemed like they were just talking on the phone, taking care of other people, and they told me, "We don't think this is gonna be a good fit for you." That was the day that we came in for check-in and payment of the rent, and by the end of the day they told me, since I wasn't prepared properly for the apartment with all the silverware and all the furniture, "Why don't we just try another time?"
Yardley Commons is only independent living. They have a buddy system. They pair someone new with someone who's there, so you have someone you can depend on at least the first couple of weeks to show you around and get you used to the routine. They cannot go to the dining room anymore. They all have to eat in their rooms, but they have some social things coming back up where they sit far apart. There was a little bit of a communication issue with the office in the beginning, but we worked it all out. The staff is very friendly. My mother has a studio apartment, but you could have a whole apartment with a bedroom. Some of the apartments were just studios with an alcove, a little kitchenette, and a full bathroom. They have a small library, a common room for exercises or flower arrangements, a small room you could book for a small family affair off the main dining room, and a nice little outside area with seating, plants, and raised gardens. They used to offer different outings. We haven't had any problems with the staff and my mother hasn't either. The initial lady that showed us around was very helpful. The dining room staff was very friendly and very accommodating. They have people that come in and clean the room once a week. My mom has not mentioned having any difficulty with anybody. When she needs something fixed, they have someone to come around and fix things. Everybody is very friendly and accommodating. The food is very good, and they offer several choices. The price was slightly lower than the other places we visited.
