I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

There is a lot of superficial appeal to the Solana (Brookdale West County) but the truth is not too far from the surface - understaffed, limited commitment from staff to residents, and overall a lack of energy and resources needed to support the residents.

My dad has been here about one year. It looks nice but he complains all of the time. People in his room at nite looking around at his stuff. Meals are brought in and then warmed up. The nurse is an LPN not an RN and calls the doctors exchange unnecessarily. There is no transportation to doctors visits, only shopping excursions. My dad hates it.

I Am A Current/Past Resident

My mother was one of the first residents of this facility. We were very excited for her to move there. They promised us everything from transportation to Dr's appointments and other places to personal attention which we found out quickly that this was not exactly true. After settling in we noticed that she would complain that when she would ring her buzzer for help and she would wait 1/2 hour or longer. They talked us in to using one of their resident Dr's so they would not have to take her to Dr's appointments. To make a real long story short my family's experience was awful at Solana West County. They are totally under staffed and the staff is not trained for what the management advertises they can offer to the residents. It is a beautiful facility on the surface but once you move in it is anything but beautiful. They billed us for service that she did not require saying that she needed 2 person assist and then told us that she needed 3 person transfer. We have moved my mother out and she is only requiring a 1 person assist and 1 person to transfer her. She is thriving now that she is out of that place.

The Solana has been "home" to my mother for 15 months and it has been the best thing in her life for years! She has been well cared for by all Solana staff. She is an active and vibrant woman who thrives on the many social activities offered there, especially the daily exercise class, the opportunity to walk around the beautiful lake, the weekly outings to lunch, or just to sit and talk with other residents or staff members. Tiffany Conner is one staff member that Mom and I consider as a friend. She spends a lot of time getting to know Solana residents personally. She even planned a special "Night to Remember" earlier this year where residents dressed up for dinner, sang and danced, and received awards. I really enjoyed the photo album showing pictures of the festivities. Cindy is the director of activities and arranges so many fun times for residents. She also keeps families involved and hosted a wonderful BBQ party last summer. So many others have made such a difference for my mother and our family; Mary, Erin, Jessica, Ray, Marcella, Tim, Don, Joe, Jenna, Lynne, and Laura are just a few. The Solana is definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a warm, caring community for your loved one.

My mom moved to Solana six months ago and the staff is very helpful and caring. The reliability of the front desk staff that always make an effort to know her name and her children along with personal tidbits of information. The Chef is very good and will do just about anything he can to satisfy the residents who live there. The other staff members are very friendly and caring; even down to Don in maintenance who is as helpful as he can be. The only thing I can think of to improve is somehow create a listing that you can get so, you know who to call about specific things that have to do with medical care, prescriptions, therapy, doctor visits etc. I think we made a very good decision for our mom and for the first time said she was glad to be home for the evening.

My mother has been at this facility for the last 4 months and we have had more problems than I can begin to describe here. Within the first 3 weeks, my mother had lost 10 lbs and been hospitalized for dehydration. They do not have an electronic medical record and do not record TIMES medication is given. The Administrator has REFUSED to follow the physician's written order because she is so arrogant that she believes she knows better. IF YOU LOVE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER, DO NOT BRING THEM HERE. I'm sorry I did. Looks pretty, but looks can be deceiving.
