River Bend Senior Living looked really good. They provide good care and it could be an option for my brother at some point. I was impressed with them. The majority of the people who live there are pretty old and my brother has early onset dementia at only 56, so that part would be a little hard. The staff during the visit was very kind and answered all my questions. The dining area was clean and looked good. I was shown their activity schedule. They have book clubs and a computer programming class.
The facilities at River Bend Senior Living were very impressive. The staff treated us well. They did a very good job. It's set up nice, and you are able to view the river and they have sitting areas. It's clean and didn't have a smell. It's a good place, very accessible, and relaxing.
River Bend was a fairly new place. It seemed like a very clean operation. I was very pleased with what I saw there. The person we spoke with was very nice, informative, and friendly. She answered the questions that we had. They have three meals a day. They have a variety of different programs. However, we determined that my mother is not quite ready to go to a place like that.
We like River Bend. Everybody is friendly. My mother gets all of her meals there. She's a fussy eater, but we know that if she doesn't want to eat, she still has food in her apartment. They usually offer two food options at night. Sometimes it doesn't appeal to me, but there's always a fallback menu where you can get a sandwich or soup which I think is good. They have a few activities going on although I wish there could be more, but otherwise they’re OK. The staff comes in and administers her pills to her. They're really friendly, keep us informed, and look out for her. For what we're getting, it's worth the fee we're paying.
River Bend is a nice, new facility. But that's about all that's good. The care is inconsistent, sloppy, careless and performed by underpaid care assistants. Many of which really don't care for the people they serve- our parents. The staff turnover is high. From week-to-week we never knew who was "caring" for our parents. The communication by staff was poor until I got them to call me with weekly updates. After those calls ended the care and communication went back to being substandard. We had no choice but to pull my parents out of RB. I discovered the "care" assistants were mis-medicating my parents, not emptying their garbage, leaving my dad in soiled undergarments, not reporting to us that my parents weren't being showered & not reporting that the care assistants weren't doing my parent's laundry. We visited my parents frequently and are very involved with their care. Can you imagine if we weren't? All of this for over $5,000 a month. Which is absolutely criminal. RB should be investigated. My guess is they would be shut down. There's a lot more to this story that makes it even more compelling. I have run into a few former experienced care assistants after they quit RB. Each informed me of how poorly run RB is and how they couldn't take working there any longer. Bottom line- this is NOT the place you want your loved ones to live. There are much better run senior care facilities in Rochester.
