I am/was a resident of this facility

I live in Whealdon Estates. I have an apartment on the back of the building, I have a patio, and a yard. I have a fence around my little yard. I have a dog, and I have a doggie door. I have three sons, and they all said, "Mom, you couldn't have a better deal than that." All the places I talked to, they don't have what I have. I'm very happy. I have not asked for one thing that they have not done. The staff is absolutely wonderful, they're very supportive of the residents, they all are very caring people, and they all are hard workers; they're just super nice people. They make an effort to have a variety of meals, and you have a choice. Now, things are a little bit different right now because of COVID but before that, we had like five choices for our noon meals. They have heart-healthy meals, they have light meals like sandwiches, and they have full meals, but you have a big choice. Now that we're still on lockdown from COVID, I think we have maybe two choices at noon and two in the evening, and you always have a hot meal. For breakfast, they have a variety of choices. I don't participate in a lot of activities, but I know they have a big variety. The activities director is very, very creative. She is always starting new things and having new things. There are a variety of activities. They have musicians come in, and they have people come in, and give you information like on insurance and investing, and all that kind of things. In a couple of weeks, someone is going to come in to give us our flu shot. They have a podiatrist that comes in. They have a beauty shop in the facility. They have a deal where after a year you pay, I think two extra months rent, and you can lock in your rate. Fortunately, I was able to do that. I have a studio apartment. I was amazed at what some of these other places charge, just absolutely amazed.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Whealdon Estates' staff is great. The place is older and could use some updating, but it's clean and that's the most important thing. It was also the most affordable one. My mom participates in games, Bingo, and also in crafts in the morning. Everyone there is just great and treat everybody really good. They treat us and my mother really good, and we absolutely have no complaints. Mama is happy there. We pay someone to bathe her three times a week and administer her meds morning and night. They offer three full, cooked meals a day. They give my mom little chores to do and she's happy with that because she wants to keep herself busy and from being idle and bored. She's never in her room by herself and always out doing things with other people. They also have musicians come there once a week or so. The housekeeping does a good job with Mama's room. We're all happy with that.

I Visited This Community

Whealdon Estates is a nice place, though it depends on the room you get because some rooms are nicer than others. The room that I saw was a one-bedroom that was recently renovated, so it was nice. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We had lunch there, and the food was very tasty.

We had chosen Whealdon Estates until a medical problem came up, so we put it on hold. It is independent but we are going to have to hire someone to come with my relative. We like it because everything is in close proximity. The rooms are close. There is a sense of community. Everything is right there. Residents don't have to wander around the big place. For people with mobility issues and even with memory issues, it is ideal because it is very simple to get to the room, to the dining room and to the elevator. Everything is in close proximity. The staff is very helpful. The ones that we met were really helpful, considerate and very attentive to our needs. The grounds are very compact and very pretty. It is an older place, but the rooms are maintained. They have weekly programs two to three times a week, and they would take them out. They have on-site games and parties. It seems like they keep the residents pretty active. I didn't have the meal, but the dining room was excellent.

Whealdon Estates was very favorable. The food was good. The negative for me was lack of parking. It is not an issue if one is not driving, but I have a car, and the lack of parking was an issue. The community was very favorable though. At lunch I ate with some of the residents and I thought that was very nice. The person who helped me was very good; however, the place was a little bit older.

Whealdon Estates was very nice and clean. The people were extremely nice. It couldn't have been nicer. They were very kind, showed me around, and spent a lot of time with me. I met some of the people who lived there who were very nice as well. If the room is on the ground floor, it has a patio, and if it's on the second or third floor, it has a balcony. They had a lovely walking trail around the building, transportation to stores and doctors, exercise, bingo and football game viewings. The staff was very nice, and the people were very warm and welcoming. The rooms were nice, but they needed a fresh coat of paint. The place needed some updating.

Whealdon Estates was a very nice place and appeared to be very clean and neat. The nice manager who gave me the tour was very thorough in explaining the whole protocol. At the time of my visit, I did not see any activities because there was an outbreak of a virus, but I saw that they had a list of activities. I saw an exercise room as well as a game room/TV room for everyone. The residents that I saw seemed very well adjusted. The dining area was very nice. I didn’t get the chance to see their food, but I saw the menu and was very pleased with that as well.

I went to Whealdon Estates. They were in the process of remodeling, so I don't know what it will look like after it's done. The staff member who assisted me was very cordial, and very informative. The dining area is wide open, they have tables set up like a restaurant, and they have areas where the residents can get fruits and other snacks throughout the day.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend has moved into Whealdon Estates. I'm not thrilled with where my friend is living, how she is living, and how they treat her. It is not a good experience. They don't care for people. However, because it is convenient to me, I kept my friend there. Other than that, I would have moved her. My friend was getting one roll of toilet paper for the week, and sometimes old peoples' bladders are weak, so they make accidents. Another thing is their food. I don't know how they cook the food because I have never been to the kitchen, but people always complain that the food has too much salt.

We didn't like Whealdon Estates and were not pleased with that place. The apartments were clean but small. They had some activities for the seniors, and the staff was friendly and helpful. They had a little exercise room, pool table, billiards room, and card-playing area. It was kind of dreary. The food was tasty, but if I ate there three times a day, I would lose a lot of weight.

We weren't impressed with Whealdon Estates at all. They let the residents smoke in their rooms and that was a big turnoff. It's a three-story facility, so if the resident lives on the third floor, they have to take the elevator. It had a dining room and laundry facilities. The staff was nice, but not quite as professional as at the other place we looked at.

I visited this facility

The apartments at Whealdon Estates were not very good. They had very minimal countertops and cabinets, which was not what I considered sufficient, not even for assisted living. In several of the units, I saw loose wires and cables running across the room. I had difficulty finding a parking spot and difficulty finding the entrance. There was insufficient parking near the building where my parents would go into. My other concern was that I did not speak to any of the residents while I was there. There was a man sitting at the dining table who was very near us and was obviously trying to get somebody's attention, but the gentleman who was showing me around didn’t even acknowledge him. It wasn’t what I was looking for. There was nothing that I liked there.
