Atria Stony Brook is great, and the staff and the activity director are also great. My only concern was that a couple of the lower-level workers, not all though, probably don't know how to deal with patients with memory issues. It sometimes bothers me how they interact, they kind of get irritated with the residents, but I don't see the same issues in the assisted living level. There are no problems with the appearance of the place, it looks fine. Their activity director is fantastic, and the lower-level staff seems to be more on their toes when the activity director is there. But overall we are happy with them. I guess they could work on training their other workers. The community is aesthetically nice. The assisted living level is cheaper than memory care, and I don't really see anything my dad has benefited from in memory care except probably that it's locked down.
I visited the Atria Stony Brook which was within half a mile from my house. It’s a lovely place. I can’t say enough about the staff. They’re wonderful. They have one-bedroom and two-bedroom units with kitchenette, living room, and sufficient bath and handicap features in them. The outside facilities are great. They have a lawn that you can sit on and a fenced-in park where you could sit on a rocking chair. It seems to be very well done. They have all the transportation that anyone would need. I think the prices are reasonable because there’s a lot of manpower that goes intp making sure people are safe.
I liked Atria Stony Brook because someone was on-site 24/7 and my mother could eat her meals anytime she wanted -- it's community type meal. Her 1-bedroom would not be that large, but ample for her needs. There were some people in the dining room when I was there, but they had several things offered activity wise. The administrator was helpful and pleasant. I met a nice lady who had been there since the center was built. It was clean, secure, and they had a movie room.
My parents moved into Atria Stony Brook. They’re in level 1, which is basically bathing and dressing. I’m not really happy with them at this point. It’s a nice facility, but they have some staffing problems. When the maintenance director was released, it took some time to replace him. I’m not sure if they have replaced him or not. One of the ladies who helps with the care has been out for weeks. Some of the maintenance issues that need to be addressed for my parents are not being addressed. My father was not crazy about the food and the way the menus are set up. There seems to be some turnover there as well. Atria Stony Brook is a nice place, and the people who are there are very nice, but there are some management issues or some staffing issues that we’re hoping get addressed soon. It is a nice building. The rooms are nice and clean. Their cleaning people do a good job. The employees are nice and are doing a good job, but they just have some staffing problem and that has created some gaps in the service.
