Here at Heritage of Overland Park, we offer the very best Alzheimer's and dementia care and services available. As a dedicated provider of memory care services, our community has been designed from the ground up to be a safe, secure and comforting environment for individuals facing the daily challenges presented by memory loss. All services provided by our professionally trained staff are overseen by our Medical Director.
From the assistance provided by our compassionate staff members to the delicious meals prepared fresh each day in our family-style kitchen, we overlook no details when caring for the seniors residing at our community.
Different from the larger senior living communities, our community is broken into three smaller homelike residences. Each "home" can accommodate up to 16 residents and comes with its own secured courtyard and memory garden. In addition, our homes have their own family-style kitchen, numerous lounge areas, a dining room and sun porch.
Accommodations within each home consist of a private studio apartment with private bathroom. Apartments are just large enough to allow family and friends ample space when visiting, but small enough to help prevent residents from feeling either confused or overwhelmed. Residents of Heritage of Overland Park can also take advantage of the activity rooms located within each home.
Throughout each day, residents have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and events. These events center around the Six Dimensions of Wellness Model and can include Yoga, Bible studies, live music, creative expression and animal therapy, to name a few.
Because we specialize in memory care, each resident within our community receives individually tailored services. We take into account each senior's personal history and preferences, and we encourage our caregivers to spend time with residents and develop friendships. Staff members are on-site around the clock to provide assistance as needed, which include help with dressing, personal hygiene, medication management and more.
For excellent memory care in a homelike environment, Heritage of Overland Park is the right choice.

The best way to get to know a community is by scheduling a tour. See the facilities, meet the staff and residents, and get a feel first hand what it's like to live at Heritage of Overland Park Memory Care.
Starting Cost per Month:
Medicaid/Medicare Not Accepted
The Heritage of Overland Park charges $7000 a month per resident. The employees that take care of the residents make an average of $11.50 an hour. They have 3 buildings with 16 to 18 residents in each building. There are four staff members on duty from 8:30 am to 4 pm. The remaining hours are staffed with two staff members, one CMA to pass out medication and two CNA's. This simply not enough staffing to properly take care of the residents. I have witnessed residents hitting other residents and yet they let them remain there. I have witnessed employees yelling at and arguing with the residents. I have witnessed the staff ignoring a residents request to change soilded bed sheets. I have witnessed the staff and allowing a resident to walk by him self against the wishes of the Executive Director even though the resident has a history of falling and continues to fall. CMA's who pass out med's routinely show up late. They are consistently short staffed due to people calling in sick and not being able to fill vacant positions. The residents are not given a menu choice at meal time as most facilities do. Much of the food is store bought and often on the week-ends the residents are served items such as chicken nachos with fried eggs and small store bought pizzas for lunch. On a recent Saturday morning the cook did not show up. The residents were left with donuts and milk for breakfast. There is always an ample supply of donuts and candy available. The residents and families deserve so much better. If you are considering putting your loved on here, shop around! Look for a place that cooks everything in house and gives the residents a choice at meal time. Also look for a facility that has a much better ratio of caretakers to residents. The Heritage of Overland Park puts on a good show for a client tour but at the end of the day their main concern is about making money. Giving your loved one the best care is the least of their concern.
