The best way to get to know a community is by scheduling a tour. See the facilities, meet the staff and residents, and get a feel first hand what it's like to live at Independence Village Senior Living Continuing Care.
Independence Village of Peoria was probably my favorite. It was larger with three floors and 150 apartments. The marketing person was really super nice. I liked that they had a lot going on for their residents. They had on-staff home health nurses and lots of choices for their food. Every night, there was an alternative to the main dish that was being served. I liked that when their client's physical and mental condition worsens, they did not have to relocate to a new room and were able to stay where they were. If they got to the point where they needed hospice or something, the nursing staff would come to them. There was lot of room, and they could bring in a lot of people. I had a really good feeling about the atmosphere, and the price was reasonable. They told me that they were not set up right now for Medicaid, but they were going to do some renovations this year and after those were done, they would have it set up.
My relative has been staying at Independence Village of Peoria for about seven months. I really like it because even though she's in independent living, they still monitor and watch her behavior; if there's any type of change, they notify me. You can increase to assisted living if necessary and get the services to match whatever the needs are. The rooms have a weekly service where they clean, dust, and provide towels and sheets. They have activities every day, and at least once a week, they have big activities like having entertainers come in or taking them on field trips. On Christmas, they take them out to see the lights and out to dinner once a month. They have hair care and nail services that come in once a month. The staff is great and goes above and beyond their call of duty. They genuinely care about her welfare and making sure she's comfortable living there, so I really like that.
My mom likes Independence Village. We chose it because we were impressed with the services that they could help provide. She likes the room that she was able to get. They have studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. My mom has a studio. Independence Village hasn’t really lived up to my mom’s expectations, but she has gone from not living in a facility to living in a facility. They haven’t always been giving all the services that they said they would. She doesn’t care for the food. It doesn’t sound like it’s very well balanced.
We chose Independence Village for a lot of aspects about it. We looked at different places, and this was the best one for us. The staff seemed friendly and knowledgeable. Our relative does not have any complaints about the food.
