Embark at Niles was a very well-run community, but somewhat older. I didn't like the high-rise aspect of it. It was such a tall building and you have to use the elevators for everything. The staff was friendly and very outgoing and seemed very devoted to what they were doing. They have a pool, a gym space, and a nice physical therapy area. The food menu was very nice.
We chose Embark at Niles for my mother because the facilities were nice and the price is affordable. They prepare the meals for the residents which is one good thing. They also have a library, swimming pool, and fitness, so people don't have to go outside and just stay in the building which is good. The room is okay, it could be a little better. I wouldn't say it's excellent, but it's alright to me. The room has a refrigerator, a stove, and I think it's nice to have a little kitchen like that, and the bathroom is easy for older residents to go in and out of the shower. The staff is good. I also think they have a very good activities program. The value is also good.
Over the last several years, there have been different owners of this retirement facility which is geared toward people who can live independently in their own apartment, although there is a separate area for people needing assisted living. It is a lovely facility, nicely furnished and decorated with a large general dining room that is airy and bright, surrounded by large windows where residents are served two meals a day. There is a swimming and exercise room on the premises. On the main floor outside the dining room is the lobby where residents can be seen socializing together. In the middle is a grand piano and concerts are occasionally held. The food is good, although the waitstaff tend to be young and inexperienced. Religious services are held for people who are Jewish. If relatives want to stay over there are extra rooms. The one bedroom and two bedroom apartments are roomy with good closet space. Residents are able to furnish the apartments as they would like. On the premises are caregiving staff who can be hired to assist residents. The facility is several stories high and there are two elevators which get quite busy at meal time.
