I Visited This Community
Emeritus at Sandy Springs is considered to be (general) Assisted Living, and is linked to the near-by unit which provides dementia-specific care. This is great, as it provides two levels of supportive care to keep couples almost-together; a couple in which one has memory loss issues and one does not, can live close enough to visit often. The building itself has long hallways but with warm, usable niches for reading or visiting. When I visit clients, I love the comfortable feeling of "home"; it doesn't FEEL like a nursing home but rather a large home and community of friends. Emeritus has an active social program, with several centers. For example, a general large room has been used to hold a memorial service for a departed resident, or a marriage of residents! They have a room specifically for arts and crafts. And the "bus", owned by the residence, takes residents to theater, opera, shopping, and some doctor appointments. Staff is knowledgeable of "healthy aging" issues and of the diseases of the elderly...and works with outside agencies and professionals to provide the best responses appropriate for their resident.
