Sunset Lake Village was nice, but the room was smaller than other places. The staff was nice, and there were people sitting at the tables. Each pod had their own dining table, and theyre able to sit at one big table, or two people to a table. It was a quick tour. There was no pool, and each pod had a little library of their own with donated books.
My mother moved into Sunset Lake Village and so far it's OK. The people that work there are great. It's just a nice environment, it's clean, and it's friendly. They have a lot of stuff to keep the residents active. They take them out on walks, the play bingo, and all that stuff. They serve three meals a day and the staff is good. They assist you with anything. As long as it's in the paperwork they'll give you anything you want.
My mom was at Sunset Lake Village for three weeks. She refused housekeeping and do her own housekeeping. She didn’t let them change her bed. I did the laundry. I think in the three weeks that my mom was there, she got one shower. It was posted on the back on her door that she would get assistance with the shower on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I think on one Wednesday, she got a shower, and then I don’t know what happened. She never got another one, so that wasn’t good. I did have a little bit of a problem there. She was in assisted living but basically she did her own thing other than one shower and her medications once a day.
We visited Sunset Lake Village. The price was right, and we liked that they had sections called neighborhoods. It was more like an institution. They had a small dining room andall kinds of transportation to take you places. The beach was very close. They were there to answer all the questions you had and help you with anything. They had physical therapy, an on-site nurse, and a doctor that came in and checked everybody a couple of times a week. We were looking for a place that was safe and would have the medical help that our friend needed close to us, and we thought this was right for him.
I moved my mom into Sunset Lake Village the first of Jan. I could not believe how friendly the staff was especially the Nurse and the Executive Director. Every body was so nice to my mom. The Executive Director spent a lot of time with my mom and I and introduce us to alot of residents she thought mom would like. She took un into the dinning room set my mom with three other residents. And then she set down with me and we had lunch together. It looks like after talking to her things are getting better every day at Sunset, she has been hiring a lot of new people and you can tell how the employees and the residents love her. So I give the staff a 5 because the are so friendly and caring. You can tell they have compassion about doing their job. It takes a special person to work at a place like Sunset. The food was surprisingly very good and the Chef even came out and introduce him self to my mom and even came over and introduce him self to me. I gave the chef 5 As we were eating lunh the Executive Director mention she had just hire another Activity Director and after lunch we were being shown around and I watch her and she was very friendly and she had a special way she was engaging and the residents really seam to love her. I gave her a 5 Now that mom has been there for almost a month and loves it. I seen that they are a little short of caregivers, But they have been hiring new caregivers and they have gotten some good ones. When it come to the community it is looking better all the time they now have two maintenance men that are working on the cleanliness of the building. It looking good, but I believe in six months I good give them a 5 but I give it today a 4. Overall I give it a 5, because I think the leadership from the Executive Director Katie Smith is an A+, I have always told myself to look at who is the one at the top in charge. If that person doesn't have the passion for taking care of the residents and the respect from the employees and the leadership know how, then I needed to look for another community.
Since they have changed owners, they have reduced the staff to dangerous levels for the residents. My parents were very happy here in the past, we have moved them for safety reasons and so our parents receive the care they deserve to keep them safe and healthy. Staff quality has gone down, food quality has gone done, the director in usually locked in her office and has no care or concerns for her residents. The only concern for this location is money and not resident care.
