I visited Brookdale Bay Pines. Most of it was good, but the rooms were very small. Everything was fine. I saw their activities calendar.
The staff at Brookdale Bay Pines answered all my questions. As you walk in, it's almost the dining room, then the respite care bedroom, and then down the hall was another room. It's a small place, but it was very nice. The room I saw just had a bedroom, a bed, a chest, a bathroom, and a chair, which was fine for respite. Everything seemed great there.
My dad is living in Brookdale Bay Pines. The place is nice and clean. The staff is OK. They're friendly. I was there for one meal; the food was what should be expected. They have Bingo, gardening, and outings. They have a library and a hair salon. However, we have a major issue with them. They just moved my dad up to memory care but not because he has a bad memory. He took a walk as he is very mobile, but he forgot to sign out. So they put him up for memory care for a 30-day trial. That's disrespectful. They should give him a chance since he's only been there for a few weeks. Now, he is stuck in an area, which is only one hallway. They seem to be more concerned about the liability issue than the actual care of the patients.
The apartments at Brookdale were way too small. It looked clean enough. They didn't give me a chance to test the food and I ended up having to wait before someone took me on a tour. The staff answered my questions for the most part, and seemed knowledgeable.
Brookdale was very nice. The staff was very nice, very friendly, and accommodating. However, they're going to be expensive, and I can't afford it. The apartment was bigger than my own bedroom, and you had to furnish it. The models they showed us were very nice. They served three meals. The grounds and facility were well kept, and the residents seemed happy and upbeat.
They don't know when the doctors will visit. They feel it is not important for family to visit. The doctors tell me to ask Brookdale to assist in having FMLA forms signed, as the medical records are kept at the facility. The executive director says she doesn't know where the medical records are, "I imagine the doctors have them on little digital thingys". This woman also told me it was my fault I don't have enough days off from work to come visit my mother. She told me it was not necessary for me to visit with my mother. I sure hope she lives in a facility someday and has no visits from family, she deserves to be ignored.
We are aware you have spoken with our District Director of Operations, and together are working on a resolution to your concerns.
I had the chance of visiting Brookdale Bay Pines and was drawn to the big patio area located out back. Which had multiple rest areas for enjoying fresh air or simply listening to birds chirp. They have apartments that comes with carpet. And even though they were small. They are easy to access and have a nice design to them. The dining room was huge. With beautiful chandeliers and curtains hanging from above. And they do offer three home cooked meals a day. I did see a computer lab which has free wifi, a big library which have tons of selections, and a movie room with high comfy chairs. Just some of the activities one can enjoy.
