Description of River Commons

River Commons offers active retirees an enriching environment through its Platinum Service brand of independent living. Its pet-friendly four-story building has 24-hour front desk staffing and an elevator for accessibility. The well-maintained grounds feature shuffleboard courts and a heated outdoor pool with covered patio dining sets. All studio, alcove and one-bedroom apartments have kitchenettes and private balconies with glass doors. Chef-prepared meals are served in the elegant dining room that has a grand piano and floor-to-ceiling windows. Other welcoming amenities include a fitness center, billiards room, theater room and business center.

Aside from joining on-site activities, residents have easy access to various recreational establishments outside the facility. River Commons is close to Port Charlotte Golf Club, Port Charlotte Beach Park and Fishermen's Village in Punta Gorda. Health care services are easily within reach as the facility is a block away from Fawcett Memorial Hospital and Bayfront Health Port Charlotte.

I visited this facility

I would go to River Commons. They have a pool and they're dog friendly. They have aerobics classes. The rooms have balconies and the floors are all laminate, which is important if you have a pet. The residents opened up their homes to me. They also have a woman on-staff to help if you need to get dressed and get going in the morning. They have big lobbies if you want to entertain family outside of your own room. The dining room was bright and cheerful. They have grand pianos on each floor. There's parking behind the building, which is first come first serve. They have a bus service to doctors' appointments within 15 miles. The rooms were big and newly done. The staff was great and the greeter at the desk was very personable. There's a covered walkway courtyard and inside is a fireplace. On the other side was the dining room, to the right was the desk, and to the left was a grand piano with a sunroom. Breakfast is a buffet, the big meal is two to three choices, and then there's a light meal in the afternoon. They have popcorn and TV nights. There's carpeting in the hallways, it's quiet, and you don't hear any road sounds or any people on the other side of the door. It's clean. The showrooms were clean, but the inhabited ones were also meticulous.
