Reviews of Colonial Village

I Visited This Facility
Colonial Village is very nice and clean. The washing machine is available for the residents, and they serve three meals a day. I checked out an efficiency room and a one-bedroom. The efficiency room would have been a little too tight with no closet space. The other one had all wood floors, but its price was more than what I had anticipated. There was no exercise room, but there was a few sit-down bikes in the hallway. They had a sewing room, a craft room, and a movie room with a big screen in it. They also had trips. I met the staff and maybe four of the residents; they were getting a skit ready.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident
Colonial Village was THE place to retire in Longview, Texas before being bought out by Holiday Retirement. Since the buyout the previous staff have been replaced with Holiday staff who are not local and don't have a relationship with East Texas. Since the buyout the food choices, quanity and quality have declined significantly. The building is what Holiday calls an 'acquired property' meaning it wasn't built as a Holiday property and doesn't have the same design as the newer properties like wheelchair accessible bathrooms and wide doorways and hallways. The building is old and the elevators need to be replaced as they are inoperable on occasion making it difficult for the residents to get to the dining room for meals. The apartments all need to be updated yet the cost of living here is comparable to the other Holiday properties. The Holiday management lives on site and consists of two couples; the managers, an unmarried couple, and the assistant managers, a married couple. The managers, the unmarried couple, are rude and condescending and many of the residents feel as if they treat them like children. The assistant managers, the married couple, are very pleasant and respectful of the residents making them feel welcome. The common areas and the grounds are attractive and kept clean and pleasant, although the design of the outside of the building and the parking lot is not conducive to senior living because of the stairs and steep incline. In regard to atmosphere, it has declined so much since Holiday took over that we have made arrangements to move our father to a new independent senior property (scheduled to open in October) as soon as it's available for move in. We can't wait to get Dad out of here and to a place that is pleasant for him and us like Colonial Village was before Holiday's touch.
