I Visited This Facility

I made an application to Blue Skies of Texas and they are preparing an apartment for me. I am in the process of getting ready to move in. the place is outstanding, my cousin has lived there seven years and I visited my cousin over that period of time. I flew up last February to meet with their marketing person and get back to her. The staff was very helpful and the information they told me was helpful. It really helped me evaluate in terms of making my decision. It’s a large campus with large homes, cottages, duplexes and in the buildings they have apartments for assisted living, nursing and memory care, it’s all right in. They are very friendly and answered all my questions and supportive in terms of my needs and interest. They also have musical groups which is important to me and all kinds of exercise opportunity in a beautiful setting. IN fact, the apartment I have overlooks a lovely green landscaped lawn with a beautiful pond in the middle and the fountain in the middle of that and you will see Texas Hill Country in the background. Lots of activities that I would enjoy and a very friendly people. Anyone I talked to in the hall when I was exploring with their marketing person was very open and friendly. When I had lunch with the elderly lady, I said what is the worse thing about living here, she paused and said nothing. One of the important thing to me was that Blue Skies was TARS Certified and only about 20% of the continuing care communities in the United States are and that’s a high level certification for care.

Great facility for those that have served our country. I am a veteran, and my friend was a resident here. This facility is clean, well-maintained, organized, and a great place to call home. Safety is upmost here, and the residents are safe with good lighting, door security measures, and monitoring. The one bedroom apartments are spacious and designed so that senior residents will be able to move about their living quarters without tripping. I would like to see more hand railing, but overall, the apartments are well above average. The activities allow seniors to keep their active lifestyles while fostering teamwork and friendships. They are active on and off site, and they also have transportation to many outside events. During my visit at the Blue Skies of Texas, I observed a large group of residents taking a walk around the facility. The residents are friendly and love to converse. For the senior who enjoys the outdoors and sharing interesting stories, this may be your new home. The meals here remind me of my time in the U.S. Air Force. They have well-balanced meals at this facility with lots of extras like fruit trays and desserts. The food is not over seasoned which is great for seniors with sodium restrictions. I love this facility because the residents have their own private space while being able to share their life with their peers and receive assistance when it is required. The residents also help one another and are very sociable. For seniors who choose to remain indoors and rarely participate, there may be other facilities that are more suited for you. However, seniors who wish to remain active and healthy physically and socially, The Blue Skies of Texas is a perfect match. The staff members are above average, and they make sure the residents are safe and that they have all of their activity of daily living needs met. They were addressing the residents by name, smiling, and talking with the residents' family members who were near. It is also important to see the staff conversing with residents because it allows residents to feel like they are a part of a family. Moreover, this is a community filled with loving residents, caring staff members, and management that strives to make improvements. I would choose this facility.

I Am A Current/Past Resident

I have lived at Blue Skies about a year. The residents have made this a wonderful transition. Uncounted new friends. Never a dull moment. I arrived as something of a skeptic, but this year has been one of the best in our lives. Our experiences have been just the opposite of the bitter comments in the first review. The accommodations range from small apartments to big apartments to luxury apartments to small houses to duplexes to new large homes. Health and medical facilities are first class.

I Am A Current/Past Resident

It's easy to throw rocks and run away. It's more mature to get engaged and support our fellow residents and management through thoughtful, caring action. I live at Blue Skies of Texas, and it was one of the best life decisions I've ever made. I've made the choice to step out of my house and to get to know the genuine American Heroes who live here. I dance, I sing, I swim, I enjoy Chef's Choice nights, the Sky Lounge, and a hundred other choices I have. I don't "hole up" in my house and look resentfully out my window and hate and criticize. To live that way is to deny myself the joys of life at Blue Skies of Texas. I am honored to be a part of a body of residents who have committed their lives to stepping forward in service to their country and to providing sustained service to others. 99.9% of the population of Blue Skies of Texas are amazing people who are fully engaged and who continue in their "retirement" years to give their talents to support management, community and village organizations, the infirm, and their friends. Someone once said, "You can choose what you want to be." I choose to be a delight-filled member of a group whose personal contributions to our nation and to our village life make a positive difference in the lives of fellow residents -- every day. I truly appreciate that I'm living at the amazing place that is Blue Skies of Texas.

We love Blue Skies primarily because of the caring community that carries on the traditions of integrity, honesty, and love of country. There is a bond here among residents that creates an atmosphere of trust and security because of our common service to our nation. The Blue Skies staff works closely with over 1100 residents with backgrounds of leadership and a sense of community to continue the tradition of 50 years of Air Force Village providing for widows who need some assistance. The highest quality of senior living at a reasonable price. Come see for yourself.

Wasted over a large portion of our life savings and over a year on this terrible experience, one might be better off looking at other similar communities. There appears to be no strategic planning and everything done seems to be reaction to immediate issues, including a recent name change and eligibility requirements. “We’re working on it” is the standard response to any issue and there are many. Residents are expected to “check their brains” at the door, regardless of life experience. Suggestions and recommendations were met with disdain and ignored. Food is terrible institutional fare. It appears the management structure allows contract employees to blame staff employees for failures. There appears to be no interest in improvement. Management did not even conduct an exit interview to determine why we left—they just didn't appear to care.

They are run VERY well and work hard to take care of the clients that qualify to live there. They truly deliver for the price they charge. You have to be military and buy in to be in this community.
