I Visited This Facility

We liked Elmcroft of North Ridge and even though we dropped in without an appointment, the staff members were friendly. The facilities were clean, the residents seemed happy, and the food smelled good. They have a lot of activities for the seniors to do, and there was physical therapy going on while we were there. I saw single room apartments that had baths, which seemed very nice. I don't know of any reason why I shouldn't rate them the highest. I have been through a lot of nursing homes but you can tell with Elmcroft that it's clean and smells nice.

I Visited This Facility

I did not care for Elmcroft of North Ridge at all. It smelled, was dark, and dingy. The residents there were just roaming around, asking the staff to help them, but the staff would just reply, "Just a minute." I didn't like that. In fact, I left and cried because it was the first place I went to and I told myself I could not put my grandmother in a place like this. The gentleman that I talked to was nice, but he didn't seem prepared when I arrived and I had to wait for 20 minutes.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My parents moved into Elmcroft of North Ridge, which we visited three times. The first time we went we just visited and talked to different people. I knew someone there from another facility, which made it a little easier. I went back to look one more time, then I took my mother with me, and she liked it. It's a great place. It worked out really well. I liked the place and my parents were going to be in the same room together. The room was close to the size that they were in. The one thing that I really liked was they had a full bathroom and there was even a walk-in shower. They can shower right there in their own room and that makes a big difference because it's a little more personal. They have a salon that's open three days a week. My parents' place is right across the hall from the dining room, so it's easy for them to get there. I've been there several times when they served the meals, and they were excellent. The staff has been very good, but there are one or two people that are new and don't know all the things. It's secured assisted living, and it's economical. One of the reasons that I picked them was because of the price comparison to where my parents were at. If they run out of money, they'll work with you on that.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

We chose Elmcroft of North Ridge for my father-in-law. He requires a high level of care because he has dementia and a history of wandering, sundowning, and being difficult. He requires a lot of care, so he was in-between a skilled nursing facility and memory care. It was very difficult to find that combination of places that could handle someone like him and not be a full nursing home, because nursing homes usually don't have lock downs and other necessities for people with dementia and wandering issues. He's been in a few facilities and they could not care for him in the facility he was already in, so we had to look for others. We wanted to delay putting him into a nursing home as long as possible for a few reasons, one is they couldn't take care of him because of the wandering and other behavioral issues, but also because nursing homes are fairly depressing. We thought Elmcroft of North Ridge could take care of him well. They did a really good assessment of him and they had a good plan in place. They took a risk, and they handled it really well. It's a clean facility. The people are really nice and we've been pretty happy with them. The staff is great. You can ask them questions like how the days have been and any issues that they've had. One thing that really stuck in my mind is the dining room. There's a kitchen attached to the dining room, so when you walk in, you smell food, because they're cooking it there. It's more like home that way. I've never seen that in other places. They're really good.
