I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

Grandma moved into Independence Village last Tuesday, and we're happy with it so far. She has her own apartment that's spacious with new paint, new carpet, and has a balcony. The staff is very helpful, communicative, and let us know what's going on. They have more than one activity going on during the day, like cards, puzzles, shuffle boards, and manicures.

Independence Village of Brighton Valley is absolutely phenomenal -- it's elegant like a 5-star hotel. It was beautiful, but very expensive. They had a library, game room, cafeteria, and deli, but they didn't have a swimming pool. It was amazing.

The Assisted living side is called The Harbors. It is UNLICENSED which means they can do what they want. Understaffed, high turnover, absenteeism that affects the quality of service that is provided. Do your due diligence and compare environments of different facilities. The building shows well when there isn't roof leaks or other issues. Maintenance positions turn over frequent. DO NOT recommend the Assisted side - BEWARE.

VERY slow in doing repair work to the facility. Remodeling breakfast area has taken months, and it is not expected to be finished for another month. Also, repairs to the water system left a few residents with intermittent hot water for a few weeks...this has finally been repaired. Food good, food service OK (mostly high school help), but pleasant, friendly. Overall would get much higher marks but for the problems with repairs and remodeling.
