Summerfield was great and even better than our current community. The place was good and I like them, but they didn't have an accommodation for my dad's catheter, which is the only reason we didn't choose them. They're an assisted living and do not have a limited nursing license.

I would not recommend Summerfield Assisted Living to anybody. I had called ahead and set up an appointment. It was supposed to be for a tour and a lunch for myself and my daughter. We got there and there was an 80-year-old lady at the desk who knew absolutely nothing about any appointments. There was nobody to do the tour and nobody knew anything about lunch. This 80-year-old lady showed us two rooms; one of them apparently had just been vacated because all of the furniture was piled up in the center of the room and a copy of their do not resuscitate was on the inside of the door. The second room that she took us to see was in need of cleaning. The hallways were dimly lit and their colors were drab. The decor was not open and inviting. The few people I saw scattered around did not look happy. Asking any questions with this lady and some of the staff, the staff rolled their eyes up at the ceiling. This used to be #1 in Bradenton. It used to be a lovely facility when it first opened because I was a nurse and did some visits in that community. I was very disappointed and I would not recommend it. I won't even give them a second chance. I won't go back and look.

My sister and I had an appointment at Summerfield Retirement, and we confirmed before we went. They took a walk-in right before us, and we waited for over half an hour, so we just walked out. It turned us off that we had an appointment but they took somebody else. It seemed nice, though. The social activities were right where you walk in. It was nice, open, and looked clean. The receptionist was nice.
