I Visited This Facility

I walked into Spring Oaks, but there was nobody at the desk to greet me. While I signed in, the director came to me, but the way he talked to me was kind of rude and abrupt. I didn't appreciate that one bit. He asked me, "What do you need?" Well, I said, "I supposed to have an appointment," and once I said I had an appointment, his attitude changed. So I didn't like that one bit. The smell of the place really got to me. The staff member even apologized for the smell. We went through the Spring Oaks in the morning, so everybody was having their diapers changed or what-have-you. Also, everything was thrown into a rolling cart in the middle of the hallway, and the smell lingered around. I was like, "Ok, this is not a place I would want to stay." The visit was very quick. I came out, and I didn't even think twice about the place. There were no activities going on either. The place seemed very quiet. It didn't seem like anybody was out of their rooms yet. The dining area looked OK and clean; however, for me, the smell of the place was hard to get past. I didn't mind that nobody was at the front desk, but at least have a way for someone to contact somebody instead of having a person stand there and wait, especially when I had an appointment with them and I was on time.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My mother is a resident of Spring Oaks and they good take care of the elderly. The rooms are small, but effective, and it's the cheapest place we could find. They also have activities and programs for the residents in the community.

I liked that Spring Oaks had a built-in sprinkler system, which is very important to me. The apartments were very nice and spacious. The studio units had a small kitchen with an apartment-sized stove, where other places only had a microwave. I could live there comfortably. They gave me a pie to take home, and it was excellent.

Spring Oaks was nice but smelled a little bit of urine as I walked through the halls. They had daily activities for them and were in the middle of remodeling. The residents seemed friendly and happy.

I enjoyed my communication with the director of Spring Oaks. I got a good sampling of the services they provide. It was very comprehensive when I was shown around the facility. They offer respite care. The rooms seemed comfortable. We have to provide the furniture, except for in respite care. It was as I expected it would be; nothing fancy, but then again we're working on a budget, and it seemed very nice.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My brother-in-law is in Spring Oaks. I have mixed emotions about it. He's getting very good care. It wasn't built to be assisted living. The people's health is more severe. It seems to me to be more of a rehab place than an assisted living place. They're really good with the food. When they grind up his food, like if it's a hotdog, it still looks like a bun and a hotdog. It always resembles the food that's being served. They go out of their way and supposedly it tastes the same, except that they're not chewing it. The staff is wonderful. He had his teeth pulled and was bleeding so much. They just went out of their way to help him because he has to have teabags to chew on to stop the bleeding. We didn't have to worry about him. The care was very good.
