I Visited This Facility
Cypress Village is the only one I went to because of its proximity to my work and home. It seemed very nice and very clean. It was very new and very updated. There was a lot of staff. They seemed very clean and friendly. There was one resident who definitely needed memory care, she was a little rambunctious but they were very good and very cheerful. Cypress Village is probably where we will go once we have to go outside the home, but as long as we can do it at home, that's best. Cypress Village has homes that you can purchase, then you can go from a two-bedroom home to a little apartment living, and then into the actual nursing care. They offer everything. The memory care/nursing home portion seemed newer than other portions of the grounds.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident
Cypress Village is a wonderul retirement community. My uncle was a patient in the Health Care/Skilled Nursing center for a couple of months. He loved it there. The staff, food, activities and amenities were all wonderful. It made his recovery much better to be in a place like Cypress Village. After my uncle stayed in their Health Care center, we realized that Cypress Village has much more to offer than skilled nursing! They have a huge, 7-story building that houses seniors in apartments ranging from studio to three bedroom. They also have an Assisted Living facility that is not only beautiful but has very large apartments and provides a variety of services. Last but not least, there is a memory center for those seniors who need top of the time memory care. While Cypress Village may cost a bit more than the local Independent or Assisted Living facilities in Jacksonville, FL, I can assure you it is worth the money when it comes to the care, food, activities, maintenance, and amenities that are provided to the residents. My grandmother and grandfather ended up moving into the Independent Living apartments. They now have a beautiful three bedroom apartment and are extremely happy with the decision that they made. They are making friends and have a variety of things to participate in every day. The fine dining is also a nice addition!! In regards to only the Independent Living apartments, there was an entrance fee that needed to be paid. However, my family considered this entrance fee pre-payment for furture healthcare needs- becuase now if the needs arises they will have priority access and discounts in the healthcare center, assisted living and memory center. There is no entrance fee for any level of living except for Independent Living apartments/homes. It is affordable and well worth it when it comes to the current and future care of your loved ones. My family can truely rest assured that my grandparents are getting the best care in Jacksonville. Cypress Village is a part of our family and we will continue to sing their praises.

Clean and well maintained facility with up-to-date interior furnishings. The facility is on the more expensive side compared to other local assisted living facilities. Program hosts a variety of events and activities throughout the day, including shopping trips, seminars, and trips to the local museum. The water aerobics program is very popular amongst the residents. This is a very large facility with plenty of walking distance. Residents with mobility issues are offered accommodations to help navigate through the facility. Residents are provided with cleaning twice weekly.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident
When our mother originally bought her apartment at Cypress Village back in 2002, her 5 children believed the place was a good deal. Although the single bedroom apartment cost over $80,000 and she was still required to pay a high monthly rent (over $2000 this year), we were promised that the purchase amount could later be used toward any assisted living she might need in the future. And 80% of whatever money was left over would be reimbursed to her survivors. But what we failed to realize was that this only served to give Cypress Village the incentive to keep her at their facility until her money ran out. Last winter, after a series of small strokes, CV's Health Center recommended our mother be moved to their lock-down unit for those who have cognitive issues or are deemed a danger to themselves. But our mother did not fall into either category. She was simply dying, and exhibiting many of the signs of the final stages of death. But believing CV's medical professionals, we signed a contract and gave them a good-faith deposit of over $7000. But our mother died before moving to the new unit. Still, CV refuses to issue a total refund to us, citing the terms of the contract. Our mother at first loved her apartment and the entire facility. She was then in her eighties and eagerly engaged in many of the activities offered there. She even became one of their volunteer ambassadors, escorting prospective new residents on tours of the facility. But somewhere along the line, Brookdale Living took over ownership of Cypress Village and things began to change. Rents went up ever year and many services were cut back. When we visited earlier this year, the place looked dirtier than we'd ever seen it and a panel in one of the elevators was dangerously exposing inside wires along with a sharp edge to get cut on (my brother said it had been that way for months!). Had my mother not died before moving to the new unit, Cypress Village would have whittled away her life savings in 14 short months. Let this be a warning to those of you looking for a decent place in Jacksonville for your elderly parent. For-profit places like Cypress Village have little incentive to give your promised money back. But they have plenty of incentive to keep it in their own pockets!
