I Visited This Facility

I visited Brookdale, and it was setup nicely. The people were very nice and it was very clean. I saw a 1-bedroom, and a suite. They were both very spacious, but you need to provide your own furnishings. They have aquacise, jazzercise, the residents go on trips, and they go to ball games. They also take them out to eat. The staff was very helpful, very friendly, and very knowledgeable.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My husband is at Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens right now. It's a beautiful place. He is comfortable in his room. I have him in an apartment where he is surrounded by his personal things even though he would rather be at home. The food that they serve is phenomenal. I have spent many meals there with my husband, and the food is amazing. My husband told me he doesn't know what he's eating, but that it's really good. That says a lot. The memory care unit is a very secure unit. They have to take the residents out to get into any activities going on in the rest of the building. My husband had diarrhea when we first put him in there from a certain medication they were giving to him, so they didn't take him for awhile because they didn't want him to have an accident and get embarassed. I really appreciated that. Now that we have gotten that under control, they have been taking him out on different excursions and getting him involved. They do a very good job. I know they took my husband out once for a movie and out another day for a lunch excursion. The activities director is very active and he has lot of things going on.

Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens was nice. It had a hotel atmosphere and a big lobby. The apartments were kind of small. The staff was all sufficiently skilled in their trade. The dining area was nice, it was set up as a restaurant. We didn't see actual residents' rooms, just a model apartment. They have everything that a normal hotel would have and then probably some additional things, like they have laundry rooms, libraries, and a bar.

My friend moved into Brookdale and he's settled in, but during the move in it was very negative. They took a month's rent and their finance people didn't coordinate everything with the finance people. He's still waiting to have things done and the place was very filthy. The location is perfect for me as a friend and I can visit anytime. The pricing is reasonable.

I Am A Current/Past Resident

I live in a beautiful apartment in Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens. We chose it because my daughters and their friends live down here. I find the staff mixed; some are pretty good. The price is the best we can get. The food is OK. It's not a gourmet restaurant, but most of the time it's OK. They have music, dancing, and musical shows at night, talks, oodles of Bingo, and lots of board games. They have regular nurses and therapists. There are moderate exercise classes that you can go to. You can go party at a restaurant as a group or you can go out. They have an excellent library and a nice outdoor pool that hardly anybody uses, but it's very pleasant. The grounds are nice. They'll take you to your doctor or restaurants or whatever you want to do between the hours of 8:00 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon throughout the week.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My mother was a resident of Prosperity Oaks in the assisted living section for a year. We were very disappointed with the quality of care she received and moved her from the facility due to what we feel was bordering neglectful. We paid for the extra nursing care and she was suppose to be bathed 3 times a week but we found that she was getting a sponge bath maybe once a month. Her medications were misplaced by the staff and we still had to pay for them. There were numerous occasions where my mother was not treated respectfully by the administrative staff. They appeared to be very fake towards the residents and made promises that they never followed through with. Very Disappointed!

I only toured the facility on behalf of my parents so I don't know the quality of care or how the food is at Prosperity Oaks. Kara was very informative and helpful. The facility is being remodeled, which will help tremendously as it is outdated. I was disappointed with the layout and size of the one bedroom apartments.

Description of Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens

Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens is a retirement community located in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., a city of about 50,000 on the Atlantic coast. The facility is owned and operated by Brookdale Senior Living, Inc., which runs a nationwide network of senior living communities. Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens offers independent living, assisted living and memory care services for seniors on one property.

FACILITIES AND AMENITIES

Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens is a pet-friendly facility located on 27 landscaped acres that include a private gardening area, a paved walking path and a duck-filled pond. Residents live in studios or in one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, each equipped with air conditioning and climate control, fully equipped kitchens, cable, a screened-in patio or balcony and emergency call systems.

All Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens residents have access to a library, convenience store, game room, swimming pool, whirlpool spa, cocktail lounge and a private dining area. Meals are prepared fresh daily, served in a restaurant-style dining room and include seasonal and featured starters, entrees and desserts. All of the food is prepared by a professionally trained chef who receives nutritional guidance from a registered dietitian.

HEALTHCARE

Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens offers residents three levels of care, including independent living support, assisted living and memory care services. All residents may request assistance with daily activities, including bathing, dressing, dining and medication management. For residents who need more assistance in order to maintain their independence, 24-hour-a-day personal care is available as well as ongoing monitoring and support for those with limited mobility.

Residents with memory care needs receive healthcare through the Clare Bridge Place program, which works to improve daily quality of life for those with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. The program includes behavior tracking and management as well as specially prepared meals co-planned by a gerontologist and registered dietitian to help residents with cognitive impairment live healthy, active lives.

Residents with specialized or acute healthcare needs are in close proximity to several hospitals, including the JFK Medical Center and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Both provide emergency, cardiac, cancer and neurological medical services.

HEALTH PROGRAMS

Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens offers residents the opportunity to participate in what it calls “Optimum Life” and “Celebrations” health programs. Optimum Life is designed to engage residents in activities that promote emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual wellness. The facility hosts events monthly that are focused on exercise, self-discovery, socialization and finding, rediscovering or refining one's purpose in life.

Residents walk together, exercise in and out of the on-site pool, read together, discuss and debate current events, and attend events during which speakers talk about the importance of having a sense of value and focus. The program is designed to stimulate intellectual and mental capacity, social interaction and cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and flexibility.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

Brookdale Palm Beach Gardens offers residents ample opportunities to participate in activities and events. On-site religious services are held every week. Residents may take classes in arts, woodworking, crafts, yoga, music, cooking and gardening, among others. Or they can take part in organized board game competitions. The facility also invites authors, entertainers and experts on a variety of topics to speak to residents.

Residents may also sign up for organized excursions into the city, which is home to the Gardens Mall, Lacuna boat tours and a wide variety of seafood, steak and sushi restaurants. The facility also offers residents transportation to theaters, world-class museums and other local attractions including the Palm Beach Gardens public market, Frenchman's Forest Natural Area and the nearby Mirasol Park.
