I Visited This Facility

Sunrise of Sunnyvale was nice. Everyone I talked to on the staff was good. Everything was OK, but I was looking for small residential care as opposed to a large community. We were given a general tour. There is a dining area, common areas, and a small library/quiet area that also has a television. They were also using the dining area as a common area where some of the activities were going on.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

We ended up putting Dad at Sunrise of Sunnyvale. I felt their care was good about 90% of the time. However, in the evening when there weren't many people around, I felt they did not have enough staff. I saw some residents wandering around the hallways in the evening and there was no staff taking care of them. They didn't have physical therapy on-site. Dad's room was clean, but it was an older building. The food was very tasty, and they were extremely attentive when bringing food to my father. They offered different choices. The dining room was very beautiful.

I Visited This Facility

I visited Sunrise of Sunnyvale. It's a four-story building with very little outside, except a patio area. They had good food, a library, TV room, and a clean dining area. The activities were located in the rooms, including the dining room. The staff was very nice, very friendly, and very pleasant.

I Visited This Community

We have worked with many families moving into this community. I'm always greatly impressed by the team here at Sunrise - caring, knowledgeable, and very responsive to the families they work with. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff works tremendously hard to make sure all residents have what they need to enjoy their time at this community.

Positives nice, newer building good food, plentiful and well prepared. Negatives - VERY few real activities, most of the activities were low or no cost (such as reading the paper to the residents) The lack of activities leads to the residents sitting in their wheelchair in the lobby watching people come and go low staff to resident ratio (though I'm sure they are legally fine), staff did not look very happy, did not seem to enjoy their jobs The facility was on "lock down" twice in the past couple years due to a stomach virus and/or other flu related issue (Lock down meant that the residents were served their meals in their rooms and were not allowed to mingle with other residents for over a week) Recommendation - Look for a non-corporation owned facility, they are more personal and provide better care in my experience.
