Brookdale Orangevale looked and felt like a hotel. It didn't feel like a home. The dining area and the tour guide were nice. The studio room was very large and nice. The food looked OK.

Family Or Friend Of A Current/Past Resident

I liked the fact that Brookdale Orangevale looked like an apartment complex rather just an institutional place. I liked the apartment very much. It had large bathrooms, and it’s wonderful for my sister. They have all kinds of activities three times a day, including shopping, going out to eat, and going places. I also liked that they have a cleaning lady who comes in twice a week to clean the apartment. They offer three meals a day, but their food was not that good. The staff who brought me in was fired, and I think that was because they were making mistakes. They have a bunch of new people there right now.

Mom liked the size of Brookdale Orangevale and the people that were there. They seemed to welcome her nicely, and she's been happy ever since she went there. The staff is really nice and take care of all her issues. They have bingo, music, and outside trips. Mom likes the food there.

Family Or Friend Of A Current/Past Resident

My mother is at Brookdale Orangevale, and it’s just getting worse. The room she has is nice and has a living room, small kitchenette, bedroom, and bathroom. The staff has been very good, but the management is the worst I’ve ever seen. She’s been there with three other owners who were all very good. This management seems to think that it’s OK to leave a big, blowing fan in the hall next to somebody’s apartment for days. The maintenance is terrible. They had a facility shutdown due to an outbreak of the norovirus flu, so residents had to stay in their rooms, and staff forgot to feed one whole wing dinner. The food has gone downhill. They do not get a balanced meal. I have lunch with her once a week, and they overcharge for a guest lunch. They’ve cut down activities to a minimum. The residents show up to an activity that they have posted, and it’s canceled because there’s nobody there to run it. She plays cards for two hours in the evening, but that’s not planned by them at all. They used to have people come in to entertain them and used to have a van take them places for lunch or different drives, but they just got rid of the van. It’s all going downhill. I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody.

Formerly Emeritus at Hazel Creek is located near the corner of Hazel and Greenback Lane. You can not see the community from the road and the sign is very small so you can easily pass by and not see the community. You have to enter the community down a lane behind the Bank of America so when you come around the corner and see the beautiful community you will be pleasantly surprised at the main lodge and adjoining apartments. The staff are so friendly and helpful and they go out of their way to make you feel at home. They offer one and two bedroom apartments with full kitchens, so you can cook if you like or enjoy the wonderful meals that are provided three times a day. They have numerous social activities from piano recitals to craft fairs. They have an art group that produces some amazing work lead by one of the residents.
