Vista de la Montana was a very nice and clean community. We liked it. It's probably number 2 on our list. Everybody was very nice, very cordial, and very helpful. The staff members were very nice and had all the information we needed. They were very polite, showed us around and introduced us to other people. They did everything right. The rooms were adequate. They had plenty of space, were laid out nice, and had everything that we requested. The food was very good, and the portions turned out to be just right. The service was slow, though.

I Am/Was A Resident Of This Facility

Vista de la Montana is very good. If we need help, they come over right away. I see those blue girls all over the place helping everybody to come down to eat and even sitting them down at the table. They're very nice and it's a very healthy place to live. So far, it's been wonderful. If they call up for food, they will bring it to me so I don't have to go down if I don't want to. We have a bus to take us to doctors' appointments, shopping, and church. They even supply me with toilet paper. They also provide sheets if you want, and they wash them once a week, make your bed, and clean your place for you, which is great. They change your towels once a week and they supply them if you want it. It's easy to make friends here also, because they're all friendly people.

The tour at Vista de la Montana was excellent. They had a beautiful restaurant, very friendly people, and very nice apartments. We are planning on moving there in the near future. The staff was very accommodating. They have games for the people, external visits from time to time, and they provide transportation to medical facilities within a 10-mile radius. My only concern is the lack of kitchen facilities, and the food service was very slow.

Vista de la Montana was OK. There were some areas that needed a good carpet cleaning. The lady who gave us the tour seemed very unorganized. The gentleman we were supposed to meet with didn’t show up, so she got caught off guard and things weren’t well presented. There weren’t too many people moving around and most of them were work crew. They had a library, movie theater, pool, Jacuzzi, recreational room, and wait room. They need to have better information on the package of what they have available, and their pricing needs to be updated. We found out that a lot of stuff that’s listed on the web page isn’t included.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My Mom is a 92 yr. old widow who is still healthy, active and driving. After her third fall and surgery to repair the damage and 7 wks in a rehab facility, my brother and I knew it was time to move her out of her house and into an independent living situation. We both live out of state and quite far away. After a lot of research, it was obvious that having her remain in Surprise, AZ, was the best choice financially and emotionally and socially for her. Living with one of us was not a great option. She was able to stay in a completely familiar area, keep her church membership and friends and doctors. I picked Vista De la Montana and it's sister facility, The Madison, because of their reasonable costs (compared to facilities in SoCal where I live and Tenn. where my brother lives) and close proximity to her home. She has friends in The Madison and thought that's where she would pick, but after touring both facilities she chose Vista. She liked it much better because the halls were bright and shorter than the long dark ones @ Madison, the cost was a couple of hundred $ per month lower (BIG FACTOR for her even though she could have afforded both), and the apartment she got is bright and spacious with a huge wraparound patio. It was my first choice and I'm so glad we were able to convince her it was the right one. She's been there almost 6 months and still has complaints however. The residents are "too old, too deaf, too blind to hear and see her, too cliquey, takes too long to eat every meal, there's no one to play bridge with (the group there doesn't have room for another person without getting 3 more for a foursome), and nothing is as easy to do as it was in her house." She can still fly to see us and will continue to do so until she can't handle it anymore. The managers assure me her complaints are totally normal and within a year she'll adjust. I really like the staff and the facility and I think it was the best choice for her. The complaints she has would accompany ANY FACILITY she chose I'm sure! It's conveniently located to shopping and her doctors and the hospital is about 5 min. from Vista. Her life will never be the same as it was when my stepdad was alive and they had their darling little house in gorgeous Sun City Grand and could play golf yrs. ago. It's been a very difficult transition but I'm glad we chose Vista. I do wish the food service wasn't soooo slow! We've eaten there with her several times and it literally takes an hour an a half or longer to complete the meal. She has complained that the meals are taking up almost 6 hrs. of her day. Now for the residents who are tied to the facility with no car or family nearby that may be acceptable, cause they don't have anything else to do with their time, but it really irks her so far. If she wasn't paying for every meal she wouldn't feel obliged to eat there daily. With just a tiny kitchenette with her microwave, frig and sink she can't do any real cooking or baking for guests. She entertained a lot at her house and she misses that, although she can certainly use the common areas and the oven in the rec room to bake if she really wants to! It's all a matter of choosing to be happy wherever you are and she's got to adjust to a new lifestyle and cultivate more friends there. It's a lovely place that's safe and secure and we have peace of mind knowing that she's not alone should she have another accident or become ill. I'm totally confident the staff would rush to her side should anything happen and call the paramedics if necessary, and contact us immediately so we could drive over ASAP. Knowing she's not alone in her house is invaluable to our peace of mind. I no longer feel compelled to call her everyday to make sure she's all right! That alone was well worth it!

From our first contact the marketing and management staff were very informative, cordial and responsive to our queries. My Father has been there for four months now and states that he wishes he had thought of this years earlier. He is 91, swims daily and participates in every activity they offer. We wife and I are both medical professionals and are very pleased with our selection of Vista De La Montana.

I Visited This Community

The thing that impressed me most about this community is that they provide so many activities for their residents. There is always something happening there. The residents share a lovely dining area and food is delicious and they are always scheduling community events there. The staff is very friendly and helpful and take an interest their residents. They honor their residents for their past military service. They are located near many of the areas stores and provide transporation to many of them.
